ALMOST THERE !

Since the last post I managed to finish some of the bits needed for the throne room.

First up was the tables and bits to decorate around the alcoves, now in the film they have seats and cushions in this area, I've left them out so you can fit models in there, as seen in the above pictures.

I've also made the two control panels that fit to the wall next to the entrance way, I've used yellow acetate for the lit sections so if at a later date I want to add in some lighting I can, I also did this with the tables above.

I've also done the floor in the centre of all the sections and Rancor cover, I used fine ballast on the floor, and the pit cover was made from a piece of plasticard which I etched the panel lines in, after several failed attempts at making the holes in the panels, I decided to paint them on instead, this means it's actually a flat surface that the models sit on easily as seen above.

All I've got left to do now is some details around Jabba's dais and then I should be finished on this piece. So until next time stay safe and have fun !

Cheers Dave

  1. Terrific stuff, Dave. I can hear the music and background banter from Return of the Jedi in these pics. Terrific stuff :-)

    1. Thank you Simon, the models in the pictures certainly give it some life, rather than just looking at some walls and bits ! LOL

  2. It's looking absolutely superb, Dave! Have you considered using granny grating (google it) for the Rancor pit cover?

    1. Thank you Matt, do you mean for the level below the plates ? I already have that in hand, just need to finish some of the bars, but thanks for the idea.

  3. Looks brilliant mate, I do like the snake coming out of the top hat in the first photo (sorry couldn't resist 😁), seriously though this has been a top project, when you really get into something it becomes a bit of an obsession, and I can see that in this model, does make you turn out some terrific stuff though!

    1. Thank you Roger, it does have a top hat feel ! LOL I try to leave time gaps between big projects like this, as it takes a lot of referencing to get a good visual representation, and can take a lot of effort to achieve, soglad you like it mate.

  4. Looking good and nobody (well me at least) would have known it wasn't finished ! You were ight to leave the seating out figure placement is always more important than features that have little to no effect imho.
The model really comes 'alve' with all your wonderful figures !

    1. Thank you Joe, had a big internal argument on the seating, but functionality won in the end ! LOL The sections shown in these photographs are finished, so have the final reveal on the last section to show. Remembered how much you liked seeing the models in these builds, so made sure I remembered to do those shots this time.

  5. I can hear the conspiratorial conversations from those dark alcoves. Perfect setting Dave, love the attention to detail

    1. Thank you Dai, glad your enjoying all the details, I'm just glad we have no idea what it smells like, with some truly terrible behaviours in there, plus a Rancor pit directly underneath ! LOL

    2. Good lord I hadn’t even thought of that aspect. In the tatooine heat too! Heck even jabba by himself couldn’t be much more fragrant than a herd of bantha lol

    1. Thank you Mark, if you've got enjoyment out of watching this project, then I've achieved the ultimate goal, entertaining others. The only thing I wish with the alcoves was I could have got some more of the details in, but didn't want to sacrifice gaming space

  10. These are all excellent additions to Jabba's Palace. The more aliens the better of course, but I love seeing the ones hanging in the alcoves. In Star Wars, there have been seedy alcoves where nefarious business dealings happen and it is so easy to imagine them going down in that space. This is certainly shaping up to be a hive of scum and villainy! :D

    1. Thank you Jeff, the background characters are what really gives the place the feel of the place in my opinion, otherwise it's just some whitewash walls and furniture ! LOL I've only got a few aliens left to make and then I've got the human contingent and will have every character seen in the scene.
