Now as many of you know Alex over at leadballoony runs a challenge in February to paint up a female model, even though I'm busy working on bits for my own challenge, I thought it would be good to show my support for a fellow bloggers challenge.
My plan is to build and paint the three Haemonculus for my Dark Eldar army. I've always felt that the concept reminded me of the Cenobites from Hellraiser, and wanted to base them on three female cenobites from the films.
The first one is based off a cosplay of Pinhead, as seen in the above picture, now as you may know Pinhead was male in the last 10 movies, but there are rumours that the reboot is going to have a female Pinhead instead, so I used this cosplay for now.
The bases for this model was some 1st edition Dark Eldar plastics, that I thinned down to allow me to add greenstuff to it without making it look too bulky.
The next one I choose to base my model upon, was the demon Angelique that Pinhead turned into a Cenobite in Hellraiser 4 Bloodlines.
I used plastics again as the basis before starting to add the costume in with greenstuff, I have changed the skirt from the reference picture to allow more movement.
The last reference I chose was the female Cenobite from the first two movies, she was never given a name but the fans nicknamed her Deepthroat.

ReplyDeleteThank you Matt, they're my favourite set of movies from the horror franchise, as every movie took it in a new direction, not just repeats like the Friday the 13th franchise, been looking for a long time for suitable models and finally decided to see what I can make.

ReplyDeleteThank you John, that may be due to the fact that the UK only had 1-5 released, the other 5 I've had to get from the US, luckily I set my P.C. to play region 1 dvd's
DeleteI must admit that I'm not familiar with Hellraiser... and after seeing these photos I'm not quite sure I want to lol! That's absolutely terrifying! What is it, like a serial killer or something? And if there are 10 films I guess it can't be killed 🤷♂️
ReplyDeleteHellraiser is about these puzzleboxes that you have to seek out and if you open are transported to a realm where you have your own individual hell, although sometimes the realm see's something in you and can turn you into a Cenobite. In the fourth film they actually do trap and destroy the entities and realm, but the end of the movie is set so far in to the future, they had plenty of time inbetween, they could make more movies !
DeleteOk, that actually sounds way worse than I imagined what it could be lol! Actively seeking out a box that transports you to your own personal hell if you open it... madness. Somehow I see a lot of ex-wives/husbands and ex-girlfriends/boyfriends in these boxes 🤣
DeleteROFL ! A lot of the people that went looking for the boxes were broken, and looking for an escape from the real world, or the next big thrill. The person that became Pinhead had been an officer in WW1 and after his traumatic experience was looking for an escape. Unfortunately you can't send others in, you have to have the desire to open the box, to unlock it ! LOL

DeleteHaving left home in the late 1980's and moved to London. I saw Hellraiser in a now closed Odeon in Oxford Street, the heating was off and the place shook slightly whenever a tube train passed underneath. Very atmospheric and one of my favourite horror films. I subsequently went to a Clive Barker Weaveworld book signing in the Old Forbidden Planet shop and the author was accompanied by his female cenobite minus any special effects make up. Very eye opening in how far the movies can transform a person.
ReplyDeleteAn early form of 4D cinema by the sounds of it Phil, never had the chance to meet Clive Barker, but I do like his work as I also really enjoyed Nightbreed. It is amazing what the special effects teams have been able to create over the years before CGI

Thank you Roger, in my opinion 1 and 2 were the best, 3 dipped down but 4 which is the one with the space station brought the franchise back up again.
DeleteDid watch Nightbreed on the Horror channel when they showed it recently, as it had been a long time since I'd seen it, one of the many films that the UK haven't had released on DVD, so will probably get it from the states as they released a special edition a couple of years ago, based on the set of books by Clive Barker, shame they never made any more to finish the story.
Nice looking figures based on an interesting franchise that I never got round to seeing, I did sit next to someone on a plan who had a bit part as a demon type in one of the films, he just said the costume was very itchy!

All's well my end, just lots of life changes and a sudden slump in energy for the hobby almost completely that had me set aside my desk and blog and now I see it's been over 4 months since I last posted and yikes, even painted! Well, that's about to change as I finally got some painting done this weekend and am hoping to post up that progress tomorrow.

Never seen that middle shot of female Pinhead though? Is that a cosplay or from a specific film?

DeleteThe two genre's cross so easily and was always what I wanted to do for them even during first edition Dark Eldar.
The three pictures at the top are all cosplayers, and were ranked as the three best versions of Pinhead. There is rumour and even a Mcfarlene figure of a female pinhead that will be in the reboot of Helllraiser, just hope it's better than the Nightmare on Elm street reboot ! LOL
