MASTER OR PUPPET ?

Count Dooku in the movies appears to very much be a pawn in Palpatine's game, but in the Clone Wars series you see he as lofty aspirations to replace Palpatine as Sith Lord.

I've gone with the colour scheme from "The Attack of the Clones " movie, originally I'd planned the " Revenge of the Sith" colour scheme, but didn't check as I went along and made a couple of mistakes, and this was the quicker fix. Now I don't normally go as far as painting eyebrows, but as he has such distinct thick black ones, I thought I had better include them.

I've also finished the third Demonette squad, to help define this squad I've gone with all bald heads. As all the squads are painted in the same colour scheme, they could be easily combined together to make a single large squad.

That's all for this post, so until next time stay safe and have fun !

Cheers Dave

  1. I realize I missed a lot by not watching the Clone Wars before watching the movies. I had no idea who General Grievous was before seeing him in Attack of the Clones, and to be honest I was so put off by the multiple spinning lightsabers bullshit that I can't imagine him ever being cool no matter what. Count Dooku was another one lost on me. I loved him because he was Christopher Lee and used a fencing lightsaber (both cool); but I had no idea who he was or why he was there beyond what was revealed in the movie. Since I have only seen AotC and RotS each once, and only when they were in theatres, I haven't increased my familiarity with either since.
Still, he was played by Christopher Lee, which automatically makes him cool. Lovely job on him, and on the daemonettes.

    1. Thank you Keith. The prequels were not to everyone's liking, so can imagine watching more about that era would be very off putting. Other than Jar Jar being super annoying I enjoyed them, so enjoyed having more background on all the characters plus additional ones which played major roles within the manipulations, Dooku tried to recruit his own apprentice, to aid defeating Palpatine in the long run, as he got more attached Palpatine instructed him to dispose of Ventris, he then recruited Savage Opres, a kin of Maul as his new apprentice. So he was constantly breaking the rule of 2 of only a master and a apprentice, which is probably why Palpatine had Anakin kill him to become his new apprentice

    2. I enjoyed the prequels for the most part, especially with subsequent views years later.

  2. Marvellous posting, Dave. Count Dooku is my fave Star Wars villain by far; albeit his origin novel was a major disappointment which I simply couldn't finish. Great paint-job on him and the third Demonette squad too :-)

    1. Thank you Simon, personally my favourite was Maul, so was really glad when they found a way of bringing him back. Haven't read Dooku's origin novel and not likely to now ! LOL

    2. I may well be doing "Dooku: Jedi Lost" a disservice as its meant to cover his entire career as a Jedi. But it starts with him as a child and I couldn't get through it - and I wasn't even reading it I was listening to it whilst painting. Painful stuff imho.

    4. No really don't read it. Simon has the right of it - an utterly terrible novel, almost up there with The Marriage of Princess Leia. Ugh...

    1. Thank you Roger, he is a very iconic personality hence had to include his bushy black eyebrows as the model didn't look right without them ! LOL

  4. Brilliant stuff Dave 😀 Agreed with your above statement, it was really great to actually see the motivations of Dooku in other media (Clone Wars) than just the two movies, it adds so much more to his character.

    1. Thank you Ivor, I really enjoyed all the extra background, adventures, and character building the Clone Wars provided. My only criticism of the series was the episodes were shown out of sequence, but that's just me nit picking ! LOL

  7. Great rendition of what must be an iconic character in the films, sadly though I know nothing of him!

    1. Thank you Joe, he is a lynch pin to the events between episode 2 and 3, but not a problem if you haven't seen them

  10. Dooku really was a far more interesting character outside of the films. The Cell Shaded Clone Wars cartoons added a little more to him too. He and Maul really needed to receive more respect from Lucas in general I feel. To think, so much was made of the arrival and intro of Darth Maul and he barely made a dent to the overall film-story - just one of many lost opportunities I feel.

Your Dooku paint job is fab mate. Looks ready for that duel with Yoda for sure!

    1. Thank you Dai, indeed there has been a lot of characters that needed more of a spotlight, and dare I say some that needed a lot less ! LOL
