UPRISING

Phil over at dizbustersge had suggested doing a model in memory of Bryan Scott who passed back in March, had hoped he'd just been quiet while recuperating, but Phil confirmed my worst fears and suggested we dedicate a model to him during Zomtober as a tribute.

Roger last night came up with the idea of a-vamp-for-vampifan as he had a passion for Vampirella, which I thought was a great idea.

I already had a vampire that I started many years ago, which was a gift from a friend, and I believe it was a Reaper model produced in metal. Now I don't have an undead force of any kind so thought I would make it into a little vignette of a vampire rising from the grave.

As you can see above I added a couple of graves to the base, to add to the feel and an area to look like something had emerged from the grave. This was my first attempt at sheer clothing and was inspired by the art of Chris Achilleos, who is one of my favourite artists.

That's all for this post, so until next time stay safe and have fun !

Cheers Dave

  2. That's a great idea Dave, I certainly don't have anything suitable but will see if I can get a figure and participate.

Yours looks great, the sheer look of the cloth works really well.
    Cheers

    1. Thanks John, the idea credit goes to Phil, and Roger, just a participant.
Glad you like the painting, and I'm glad to finally finish this piece, and for a worthy tribute

  3. That's excellent Dave & I'm sure would make Bryan very happy, I don't have anything in the vampire range but I do have some unmade female zombies & have been thinking of doing one up in honour of Bryan since Greg did his post, time for me to get cracking I guess.

    1. Thank you Frank, glad you think he would have liked it. In Phil's post he suggested anything undead so female zombies would be perfect mate, look forward to seeing your post.

  4. As always you put the rest of us to shame with your speed and skill Dave, The strange thing is though that was the original figure I was going to buy to paint up for this but it was out of stock everywhere I looked, then I found a different one by "Tomb Guardian's Miniatures" in the US but postage was going to be £18.00 (for one 28mm figure!!) so the figure I got in the end was my third choice. Great work on the sheer fabric (I wasn't going to attempt that!). Bryan would most definitely of approved.

    Cheers Roger.

    1. Thank you Roger, not my intention to shame anyone, but inspire, and we should never judge our work against others, but against our own to see if we have made progress.
This model is very old now, crikey I've had it longer than my wife ! LOL The model you've chosen looks great anyway, are you sure I can't tempt you to add a bit of sheer on it ?

    2. No I don't think so, besides I don't think there are many areas where her clothing covers her enough to warrant it (that's my excuse and I'm sticking to it!)

  5. Splendid looking figure, good work on the sheer fabric, I did think his last post was poignant.

    1. Thank you Iain, it was tricky and have since seen a different way of approaching it which I may try at a later point. Indeed it was must have gone back to the post about 50 times to see if he'd made a recovery, and read all the additional comments on it

  6. Nicely done, Dave. The base is great — where did you get the raven?

    1. Also, the mini is Reaper; she's called Jahenna. There are two versions of her, I think you have the first one.

    2. Thank you Matt, the raven came out of the old plastic GW giant kit. That's a similar style of sheer as I've done, if you want to see insane sheer check out Milosh on Coolminiornot where he's even shown a chair leg behind one piece ! insane
Thanks for the information on what model she is as well

  7. Atmospheric and very nicely done...A masterpiece!

  8. Whether she's a vamp or not, she's quite the femme fatale; well worked colours to give quite a spooky effect.

    1. Thank you Joe, yes her teeth really didn't show up very well in the photo at all. Glad the colours added to the atmosphere

  9. Great work, Dave. Sheer clothing is not an effect I've been able to master, although I have tried. I love the vignette, even though I was shattered to find out Gandalf the Grey had evidently died and some annoying raven was using his stone as a perch! :)

    1. Thank you Keith, getting the right tones for sheer is very tricky and getting the paint translucent enough as well. The other method involves mixing the fabric colour with your fleshtone, which is a method I would like to try. The grave stone came from a pack of basing bits that I had kicking around since the 80's, can't even remember which company was responsible for killing Gandalf ! LOL

    2. It was a common theme; I have a Grenadier "stele" that has "Old Stormcrow's" mark on it as well!

    3. A lot of manufacturers seem to sneak these sort of things in, when I did our gravestones, I left them completely blank so people could put on what they wanted.
