WHAT A DIFFERENCE A DAY MAKES

Been feeling a bit burnt out, trying to do too much again, what with challenges, working on my Kroot and Night Hawks while working on some new pieces for the business, also not helped by constantly running out of materials, I decided to take a day away from all my current projects and just paint a model for fun, no agenda, no deadline, no rush, just enjoy the fun of painting. So I grabbed a Dark Eldar Scourge off the shelve that had been undercoated black and settled down for a quiet day

Was happy with the result and even enjoyed painting green which is my least favourite colour to paint, yes I still have 9 more to finish for the squad, but the point of the exercise was just to enjoy it, almost like a pallet cleanse, hopefully now I can finish the last two pieces for challenges, before carrying on with other projects, so until next time stay safe and have fun !

Cheers Dave

    1. Thank you Iain, the feathers were probably the easiest part to paint, do you reckon space elves are related to Vulcans ? LOL

  2. Nice work Dave & a good call to step back & just do something you'll enjoy & just take the pressure off, I know you do this as a business as well as a hobby which is different from a lot of us that its just a hobby to, but even when just doing it as a hobby a lot of us can put more pressure on ourselves then we really should.

    1. Thank you Frank, indeed it can effect us all, which is part of the reason I wanted to be open about why I did it, so for any hobbyist they can see it happens to people in the industry as well. This is my solution, but it will be different for all, just find what works for you

  3. I like the cotrast of the green again the rust-coloured wings and the apparent two tpyes pf brush-work on each, It makes for a very stunning model. The feathers must have taken an age to paint- very impressive.

    1. Thank you Joe, the colours actually came from an Emperor scorpion, normally they're black with a hint of red and bone, when upset they turn all shades of green ( know this because I upset the pet one I had !)
The feathers only took 5 minutes using careful directional drybrushing, a lot of competition painters wouldn't dream of using this technique, but is a very useful tool in the arsenal when painting armies, can give great results quickly with practice

  4. Looks great. Even though you don't like painting green, you've done a lovely job Dave. (I love painting green, though that probably stems from me painting all that bloody WW2 stuff!)

    1. Thank you Dai, it's probably why I have avoided masses of modern day uniforms and also orcs ! LOL I think part of the problem for me is needing to find the right greens that flow well together, until then I'll just keep plugging away

  5. We all start out because it's fun and enjoyable, as Frank said sometimes we let it get on top of us for no good reason. Probably much harder for you because of maintaining a business out of a hobby.

The painting looks great and if you enjoyed it then that's even better.
    Take care

    1. Thank you John, yes it can be easy to get stuck in a rut, and lose the fun aspect. Taking the time away to get back to the fun is very important, as is the support network in the community online especially in these times of social distancing.
As for the business side, I haven't done a massive amount of building the business, more of just maintaining it, which I hope to rectify as of now.
