This will be my last post for this years Monster May(hem), had a few other models I'd hoped to finish but just couldn't get them done in time, and that's okay, as I can always do them at some other point. First up today is a Krootox, you may remember back in January I mentioned I'd like to use the spare parts I had to make a fifth Krootox to bring the unit to a full contingent of five, now as this was one I was building, I could change the pose and make it a bit more dynamic like I'd seen in some of the artwork. So what parts are GW, the head of the Krootox, the Kroot and weapon are all GW plastic except the Kroot's legs, the rest was made from greenstuff and a foam core.
Painting wise I went with my standard palate, and changed some of the tones, here it is with the rest of the Krootox I have, although it does make the standard GW one look like it's trying to compensate for something with all it's bling ! LOL
Next I've finished the Khymerae for my Dark Eldar which I showed earlier in the year.
Here it is with the rest of the squad, still need to make two more, or find some reasonably priced ones on Ebay, to finish this army.
Many thanks to Keith for hosting this years challenge, enjoyed being part of it again. Until next time stay safe, and have fun !
Cheers Dave
Nice beasties for your finale! Good stuff Dave. :)
ReplyDeleteO and if you're hosting it this year, am hoping to be able to have some Summer of Scenery entries to show off after getting a work pal to 3d print a whole bunch of buildings and scatter terrain for me on their filament printer this month. Of course thats parental duties and of course hobby time in general allowing.
DeleteThank you Dai, filled a couple of holes in the lists ! LOL
DeleteYes will be hosting season of scenery again this year, and would be great to have you on board again mate, and fully understand on the other commitments, hoping I might be able to get some done myself ! LOL
Deletegreat stuff!
ReplyDelete😁
Thank you Stewart, the builds were mostly done a while ago, just some finishing off was required.
DeleteAwesome stuff, Dave! It's always great to see your scratchbuilds and kitbash-resculpts - and especially painted so well. That herd of Krootox are especially impressive!
ReplyDeleteThank you Azazael, knew I wanted to up the pose on the Krootox, as already had four in the standard pose ! LOL
DeleteImpressive work on the Krootox, wouldn't have guessed that large parts of it aren't from the official kit!
ReplyDeleteThank you snapfit, just got fed up with so many spare parts kicking around, thought I'd use them ! LOL, one of the original style Krootox, is another of my sculpts except the head, so had a bit of practice ! LOL
DeleteTwo lovely looking critters.
ReplyDeleteI'll add my applause regarding the sculpting on the Krootox, awesome.
Thank you misterc, luckily the bulk of the sculpting was done before my hand got so bad, I do like it's more action style pose.
DeleteSplendid sculpting and painting, lovely work, I really enjoyed summer of scenery when I did it, it meant I got a load of terrain done!
ReplyDeleteBest Iain
Thank you Iain, couple more slots filled with this challenge. You would be most welcome back for this years challenge, if you have space and time that is.
Deletei love these Kroots, such lovely brushwork bud
ReplyDeleteThank you Andy, glad I managed to get these done before my hand got worse ! LOL
DeleteI'm always fascinated by your skills, absolutely amazing work!!
ReplyDeleteThank you Suber, hopefully I can continue with this type of thing.
DeleteThat's a strong close to May, Dave, and all are worthy additions to your collection as well. I really like the Khymerae, they're a nasty piece of work. That's probably why the Dark Eldar keep 'em around!
ReplyDeleteThank you Jeff, I was surprised at how many I was able to finish this month ! LOL The Dark Eldar creatures add some great diversity to the army, there is one from the fighting pits they haven't included yet, but that's probably due to it's size, makes a clawed fiend look like a teddy bear ! LOL
DeleteThat last creature reminds me a ton of displacer beasts from DnD.
ReplyDeleteThank you SD, yes GW like to protect their IP but happy to borrow from others ! LOL
DeleteExcellent stuff, Dave! :-) I think the Krootox with Kroot gunner is one of the best model combinations I've ever seen and yours has come out really well! I'd not seen the Khymerae before and your models look spot on!
ReplyDeleteThank you John, the Krootox is very resemblant of beasts of burden with weapons over history, whereas the Khymerae are straight out of some's nightmares ! LOL
