So as normal for July it is time for Forgotten Heroes that is hosted by Jez at carrioncrowsbuffet for this year I'm aiming small, well small for me due to still struggling with my hand, I will add to my Star Wars project with the addition of Bo'mar Monk, if you don't know this character, it first appeared in "The Return of the Jedi", as the gate keeper in Jabba's Palace, it later appeared in the series book of Boba Fett, wandering around outside of the palace. this is what wookiepedia says about them :
"Zaril travelled to Tatooine… meeting with the B'omarr monks… members of a mysterious cult that removed their own brains so they could contemplate the mysteries of the universe without the distraction of a physical body."
―Thom Hudd[3]
The B'omarr Order,[4] which consisted of B'omarr monks, was a religious order that believed in isolating themselves from all physical sensation to enhance the power of their minds. To that aim, enlightened monks had their brains transplanted into nutrient-filled jars.[5] Whenever they wanted to move, those bottled-brains used spider-like droid walkers.[1] Older monks used four-legged walkers, but younger monks used a six-legged variant.[6]
The order possessed multiple regeneration gems, which at the time of Jabba the Hutt were stored underground behind triple doors.[7]
Here is what they look like
No doner model for this one, will have to be built from scratch, hopefully I can get this done by the end of the month, so until next time, stay safe, and have fun !
Cheers Dave
Good luck with Forgotten Heroes, Dave. No surprise you're going for some Star Wars character though. LOL!!
ReplyDeleteThank you Simon, I occasionally mix it up with a comic book character, and had thought about doing Ron Pearlman's Hellboy, but as I am struggling so much with my hand, I went with the easier option ! LOL
DeleteVery cool concept, looking forward to seeing your take on it.
ReplyDeleteThank you snapfit, hoping it shouldn't be too difficult !LOL
DeleteInterested to see how you're going to do this one, Dave. And you do know it's June, right? Lol
ReplyDeleteNot sure why the previous comment defaulted to an Anonymous account, but that was me, not some random poster.
ReplyDeleteThank you Jez, was typing during a conversation, and wrote the month we were discussing ! LOL Found on a lot of blogs they keep making you log in for some reason, yours makes me subscribe every time ! LOL Hopefully the model shouldn't be too hard.
DeleteWow, interesting challenge! I have the LEGO version of this one from the Jabba's Palace set, but I'm afraid it would hardly serve you as a reference... Good luck, I can't wait to see your work!
ReplyDeleteThank you Suber, saw the lego one when I was looking for reference pictures, I think the two tricky parts will be the legs and getting a clear dome.
Deletestill very ambitious! good luck!
ReplyDeleteThank you Stewart, as I normally have at least 10 planned, this should be easier ! LOL
DeleteOo, a monk. Lovely. I'm really looking forward to seeing what you make of this challenge.
ReplyDeleteForgotten Heroes sounds a great idea, I might give it a go myself.
Thank you misterc, hopefully it wont disappoint, all are welcome in the challenge, just pop on over to Jez's blog from the link above, to register and get the full rules.
DeleteSounds a challenge, I'm sure you'll rise to it! Oh and I'm up for your terrain challenge,if there'sspace, when do you think you'll run it?
ReplyDeleteBest Iain
Thank you Iain, been meaning to do this one for a few years, and didn't want to give myself too easy a challenge if this is the only one I do this year ! LOL You would be a valued participant, as are all, and it will be running between the 1st of July and the 31st of August.
DeleteExcellent, add me to the list please!
DeleteBest Iain
Great to have you on board Iain.
DeleteWell they look like a challenge! 😁 I'm sure you'll more than do them justice though mate!
ReplyDeleteBest of luck, cheers Roger.
Thank you Roger, hopefully I can do it justice, still trying to work out the best way to do the brain ! LOL
DeleteWalnut?
DeleteRight texture, just way too big ! LOL
DeleteThe monks are an interesting inclusion in RotJ. Also strange that Jabba would suffer them to live in his home, considering they were oblivious of the world around them.
ReplyDeleteRegardless, I'm very interested to see your take on these things.
Thank you Dai, as the universe there were many oddities from it, this being a prime example ! LOL Hopefully I can do it justice, as I've put it off so many times now ! LOL
DeleteVery interesting lore behind these guys, crazy how much information there is in Star Wars to cover such little screentime. Good luck with the challenge!
ReplyDeleteThank you SD, yes lore and background is constantly increasing on all the characters, even the ones with very small screentime ! LOL
DeleteNow that is a creepy looking thing! :-) Will be good to see how you get on!
ReplyDeleteThank you John, the Star Wars realm has some very strange creatures indeed.
DeleteNow these will fit right in at Jabba's Palace! I remember being a fairly young and impressionable kid reading about the monks in a collection of Star Wars short stories in the late 90's. Needless to say, the brains in a jar made an impression on me haha! I will be excited to see what you come up with for this one, Dave!
ReplyDeleteThank you Jeff, I never read a massive amount of the expanded universe, so my only real memory of the monk was the Return of the Jedi scene, until now where I needed to find the background for them ! LOL Think I've worked out how I'm going to do the jar, just need to mould a piece to get it started.
