HAPPY NEW YEAR

Firstly I'd like to wish you all a very happy new year, and let's hope 2022 we can return to some sense of normal.

The next set of models I have to show is some HK assassin droids, now I didn't know much about these ( I know weird Dave doesn't know something about Star Wars ! LOL) so I did a quick search on Wookiepedia and found this

The HK-series assassin droid, also known as the HK series protocol droid, was a series of combination of assassin droids and protocol droids. The series designation stands for "Hunter Killer," befitting their primary functions as assassins. They were originally manufactured by Czerka Corporation,[1] then eventually by the Confederacy of Independent Systems.[2] Their ability to perform the functions of a protocol droid became a major reason for their unmatched lethality, as they could and would often act as normal (if quite sinister looking) protocol droids, thus concealing their true function and allowing them to get closer to intended targets.

If you wish to read the full article you can find it starwars.fandom HK-series assassin droid

So a image google search found some colour schemes that I found interesting, and here are the results.

First is HK-47 I thought the rusty approach was interesting, and was a relatively quick scheme to do.

Next is HK-50 this was an easy scheme to do using a really thin blue glaze to get the right tone.

Next is HK-51 this one had a lot more detail on it with all the markings, and was very fitting for the Empire being a lot of white.

The last one is HK-55 I really liked the dark grey and gold combination.

And a group shot to finish off.

Still working on my robot bikers for Judge Dredd, so will hopefully have those finished soon, so until next time stay safe and have fun !

Cheers Dave

  1. Hmmm... Three Star Wars related posts since Christmas, and I got no notifications from them from Blogger. Clearly time for a cup of tea and to settle down so as to marvel at your paint-jobs and sculpting. :-) Terrific work on this quartet, Dave, and I really like the differing colour schemes you can paint them in - are these for SW: Legion or old Wizards of the Coast minis?

    1. Thank you Simon, Blogger continues to have glitches unfortunately, but can but hope it improves ! LOL The models came from the Return to Hoth expansion for Imperial Assault, which I was lucky enough to get for Christmas, just need to find a copy of Bespin Gambit, and I have all the core sets. There were a couple of other colour schemes I found, but these were the four I found most appealing to try.

    2. I know the AHPC broke blogger this year at the start with so many participants, and now all I seem to see are notifications for that, LOL!! I knew you'd soon be posting up pics of your Xmas pressies, but talk about out the gates with a flying start - it's only been a week and you've finished four droids already!!! I never bought Bespin Gambit as despite owning IA I have never sadly played it before Legion came out, and completely distracted my attention.

    3. Krennic and Thrawn were also Christmas presents, so makes it a bit worse ! LOL I've also got another 6 imperials well on the way to being finished, as I normally do them last, this year I thought I'd do them first, this is all inbetween waiting for paint to dry on the bikers to get them done ! LOL

  2. HK droids remind me of the Knights of the Old Republic video games - bloody good stuff. Recently saw they re-released the first one on Nintendo Switch so I’m toying with the idea of purchasing that, though the only thing holding me back is knowing I don’t really have time for such a large undertaking!

Your figs are spot on tho. Very good schemes to match existing characters.

Did find a couple of others, but these were the ones I liked the most.

  3. I've never seen these before, but they look scary (and cool) and you've done a superb job of replicating the different colour schemes! I like the white and orange one best, but the black and gold one looks like my old BMX LOL! Great work, Dave, and happy new year to you and your family!

    1. Thank you Matt, it was one I'd never come across before, but after reading the article, they have appeared in computer games, comics and novels, so I've obviously been slack ! LOL My favourite has to be the black and gold, but can appreciate the white and orange. Happy new year to you to mate.

  11. Happy New Year, Dave!
Great work on thopse HK droids. I've got some fond memories of HK-47 in KotoR - still worth playing if you haven't done so. I may have to rip off a couple of those schemes when I get to doing my own, as I have the Hoth expansion but we haven't played IA in quite some time now.

    1. Happy new year to you to Azazel.
Must admit to not playing many computer games, as I over did it one night and couldn't sculpt for a week, because of sore thumbs ! LOL Rip away on the colour schemes, if I recall from my search, there is a red one as well. I hadn't got the Hoth expansion earlier, as I was looking for models that suited Tatooine, but as these are now getting harder to find, trying to get the last one I need to complete the set.

    2. Yeah, I tend to go in spurts on licenced games and buy as much as I can find every so often because of the way they disappear. I've got most (all?) of the IA stuff and a good chunk of the 1st ed X-Wing - skipped 2e entirely due to the cost of upgrading. I may have to pick up some more ships for Armada at some stage, but I haven't even played a single game so far, so it's a little hard to justify given their prices!

      Delete
    3. It's difficult sometimes, and as you say justifying the cost. Would have loved to play X-Wing or Armada, but the cost is so prohibitive, as would have given another element to my Star Wars gaming.

      Delete
    4. Yeah, it's like that a lot of the time with the big-ticket items - which is what Armada is all about pretty much! I'd say it's worth getting the core starter (or two, if you can justify them) as it gives you a pretty solid game if you don't feel the need to "catch 'em all". With X-Wing, it's a pretty good game, and perhaps just keeping an eye out for someone selling a 1st edition colleciton as a Job lot might be the way to go. Again, it's not like you'll need every ship, and if you're not playing competitively by now, I'd say it's pretty safe to just grab 1st ed stuff. :)

    5. That's certainly an idea, and can always ask my friends at Minaturemen, to keep an eye out for me, as they deal in the second hand market, it's where some of the Judge Dredd stuff came from recently, which they very kindly sent as gifts.

  13. Hey Meatbag, how dare you not know about HK-47? :D I think a lot of the funny Star Wars droid characters are riffing on what Bioware invented in KOTOR. He is kind of like the little devil on your shoulder telling you to kill stuff and have fun doing it! If you don't have time to play KOTOR, you might try watch a video on Youtube with some of his funniest lines. You'll get an appreciation for the character quickly! I love how you painted these and even HK-47 would be proud of your work here :)

    1. Thank you Jeff, from what I read I can see what you are talking about, but will check out some vids to get a better understanding of these droids. I think they have tried to add more personality in the films and series for droids recently, with the likes of K2, L3, and IG-11, and hope they continue to do so.
