MINI ME

As I came up with the idea of doing a model of yourself in an apocalypse, then I had better lead by example.

Above is the green I made, now I approached it in respect of what I would I wear and arm myself with for a Zombie apocalypse. Clothing wise I went for overlapping layers on the clothes to lessen the risk of exposed skin to be bit, plus clothing that would stand up to a bite. So we start with a all in one long johns, then heavy denim jeans, with high leg army boots, then a reaper T shirt ( irony ! LOL) biker jacket, with biker gloves, the white collar would  be a homemade piece to protect the neck, if I was then going full out, I'd then put the biker helmet on as well, to protect the face but that seemed a copout in sculpting terms, plus I didn't fancy painting the design that is on my crash helmet ! LOL

Weapons I've gone with a machete, a combat dagger (on the belt) and modified my walking stick, would be a longer range than the machete. In the UK getting anything with range is a lot harder than it used to be, but a crossbow would be useful, for range attacks and quiet.

Here is the list of all the other people taking part in Apocalypse Me, and Zombtober

https://phillipislandgamingsociety392176732.wordpress.com/ Dave is on a roll with all the entries he's already submitted.

https://kuribospainting.com/ Jeff has done some scenery for Fallout and a great looking synth

https://rantingsfromunderthewargamestable.wordpress.com/ Roger has been busy with zombies and given each a back story on what happened to them

https://pmpainting.blogspot.com/ Matt has done zombies and scenery,

http://angrypiper.com/ Keith is currently hunting the model, he is intending to submit.

https://www.fantoricalwargaming.com/ Simon has been working on lots of Judge Dredd miniatures, which is an apocalypse setting, while working on a particular setting " Judgment Day" which is zombie related

https://deadleadproject.blogspot.com/2021/10/zomtober-2021-week-3.html has already submitted zombies and survivors

http://brummieswargamingblog.blogspot.com/ Simon is working on some Mad Max style vehicles for his submission.

If your not regular followers of these blogs, you want to check out their entries.

This will be my last Apocalypse Me entry as I have a lot to do for Salute, so until next time stay safe and have fun !

Cheers Dave

  1. Excellent stuff Dave. I needed to use Hero Forge Custom Miniatures programme to 'sculpt' myself for last year's Zomtober [https://www.fantoricalwargaming.com/post/the-squirrel-man-of-sevastopol] so I'm super impressed that your version of yourself is done by hand - not a surprise though as its your day job, LOL!!! I especially like the modified walking stick as a 'ranged' weapon. Looks awesome.

    1. Thank you Simon, as you say, it is my day job, so should put in the effort ! LOL The stick also means not having to bend down when making sure Zombies are nullified, just thinking of saving my spine as much as possible ! LOL

That is so cool, Dave, and very nicely done! :-) I'd probably have to cop out of doing a figure and just enter a Challenger 2 MBT and claim I was inside. If I go back far enough, I had one of the Phil Read Black Knight crash helmets (I think I remember that correctly) and that would be tricky to paint in small scale!

    1. Thank you John, can fully understand wanting to be in a tank, in that situation ! LOL The helmet I have is the Carl Fogerty shark XRS, and I bought the limited edition one for the year, that had a man shark riding a bike on the sides, so would have been a nightmare to paint ! LOL

  3. Excellent work! Love the thought process in the design from the clothing layers to your weaponized stick!

Can’t join in, but we’re i to create an apocalyptic “me”, I’d be only in a pair of skivvies and combat boots, wielding a pair of ball pein hammers, wearing a carpenter belt with some sort of custom set up to hold a couple bottles of vodka and an iPod blasting Guns N’ Roses in my ears as I flail about myself waiting for my inevitable chompy “end”. :)

    1. Thank you Dai, not that I've thought about this at all ! LOL
Sound's like you intend to go out in a blaze of glory mate, if the ZA ever happened, and can fully understand that, with what life would be like in the aftermath ! LOL

    2. Me and the boys talk about our “plans” for when (not “if” lol!) the ZA occurs. Feel very lucky to be in a country where almost every person in my circle of mates has enough firepower and ammo to hold out for at least a few months.

But after that, yeah, my description above kicks in lol!

    3. Thanks for that description of yourself, Dai, it's certainly... interesting LOL!

    4. Indeed Dai, getting hold of anything that has range in the UK is difficult, but do have a list of where the best places to look would be ! LOL Good to have friends like that in an apocalypse ! LOL

    1. Thank you Matt, I'm a definite case of don't judge a book by it's cover, as I'm only dangerous to zombies or muggers ! LOL

  6. Great model, love the walking stick stbby thing. Detsil on th jacket is excellent and a great idea for the apocalypse. Ihave some police riot armour that is a good partial defence, but I like your thinking.

    1. Thank you Joe, thought that I will still need my stick, and turning it to a weapon as well made sense. Riot armour would indeed be a great start, it always amazes me in films and series, that the characters don't cover up properly ! LOL

  7. Great figure Dave, my that's a big chopper you have mate! but aren't you worried that sharpening the end of your stick will just mean it's sticks into the ground? I can see the scene in a zombie movie where you try to run away only to find your stick stuck in the floor as the Zom's pile over you! 😉 (they do love a bit of irony in horror movies after all!).

No figure of me I'm afraid, I can't afford that much greenstuff! (I suppose |I could use another ping-pong ball as a base! 😁).

    Cheers Roger.

    1. Thank you Roger, it's not the size of the chopper you have to worry about, but the motion and force ! LOL
Agree, my original thoughts were to have a retractable point, but wasn't sure how to show it, still have time to work it out for the real thing ! LOL
Shame mate, maybe next year, you and Dave on Guru Pig are both exaggerating your size ! LOL

  8. What a fun idea 😀 Dave & a nice bit of work, will you be putting yourself up for sale? 😂😂

    1. Thank you Frank, was fun to do, hadn't intended to put me up for sale, as who would want a crippled sculptor, wandering around their Zombie board ! LOL

  9. Is that you or John Travolta, Dave? ;) I think sculpting yourself for a post-apocalypse setting is great, especially if you can use it in any gaming systems. Thanks for the plug and I will get out my mat and all of the minis and terrain I've been working on for a final picture for the challenge soon.

    1. Thank you Jeff, John is actually a lot older than me, just ageing better ! LOL I do want to do some apocalyptic gaming, altough haven't decided which type of apocalypse yet .
No problem at all on the plug, as credit where it's due mate

  11. Ha! This is great! It's always interesting to see what the folks behind the blogs actually look like. For most of you, I have no idea. I see you went full stabby for the inevitable ZA. Some folks prefer the reliability and minimal maintenance of a heavy, blunt instrument; some kit themselves out like Arnold Schwarzenegger in Commando. But Dave knows "guns are for show, knives for the pro."

    1. Thank you Keith, don't go in for lots of pictures of myself, so a model is probably the closest you'll get ! LOL
Indeed mate, knives are silent, don't need reloading and reliable ( as long as they're tempered properly ), although I'm just as deadly with longbow, crossbow, rifle and pistol ! LOL
