THIS SECTION IS OCCUPIED

In the film Rogue One we were introduced to a new Imperial vehicle the TX-225 GAVw Occupier combat assault tank, not only did it have a devastating weapons array, but a load carrying capacity.

Now I was lucky enough to get this for my birthday, and I went for the colour scheme seen in the film, which involved a lot of chipping, and some dust weathering to tie it in to the in screen footage. I wish I'd had some of the weathering powders to do the dust, but had to do some carful drybrushing instead.

I've kept the storage containers separate so they can be used in multiple uses not just on the tank. On the base I've also added some ridges either side of the tracks to make the tank sit into the ground and add a sense of realism.

That's all for this post, so until next time stay safe and have fun !

Cheers Dave

  1. Very nicely done Dave, all the chips and weathering, really brings it to life and marries it into the Star Wars universe and look.

    Cheers Roger.

    1. Thank you Roger, a lot of pausing the movie, to get the chipping close, and now really thinking of investing in some weathering powders ! LOL

  2. Solid work Dave! Don’t think weathering powders would really add all that much to what you’ve already done in all honesty.

Now you just need a blown up version! Lol

    1. Thank you Dai, I guess I'm just curious about the powders, as it's something I've never tried.
Now that's a good point, I'll add it to the very long list ! LOL

  3. I really like the scenes this tank is in so I'm excited to see that you've painted it. Rogue One has a very realistic and at times, gritty feel and I think your paint job does it justice. Keep the Star Wars minis coming! :)

    1. Thank you Jeff, it has become one of my favourite movies, and only had one time line mistake in it, really wanted to capture the feel of the movie in this piece.

  4. Excellent, Dave, it looks really good with the chipped paint and weathering. And sinking it into the base is a great idea. The scene this tank is in was one of the best action sequences in all the Star Wars movies and it's awesome to see you bring it to life.

    1. Thank you Matt, the base sinking is something I do with heavy equipment, as it gives it a more natural feel. It was a great scene, and glad I could do it justice

That is brilliant, Dave! :-) By coincidence I've just bought a copy of the Rogue One DVD so will be looking out for the tank now!

    1. Thank you Justin, if a vehicle has a base then I like to give it the detail it deserves.

    1. Thank you Joe, yes the chipping alone took 3 separate sessions, but was worth it in the end.
I got worried yesterday when you hadn't posted up anything, so glad to see you on the blogs.

  13. Blimey. That chipping on the vehicle is absolutely top notch, Dave. Marvellous stuff. I hadn't realised just how low the vehicle was height-wise. It is literally a futuristic flat-bed isn't it. Love what you've done with its cargo too.

    1. Thank you Simon, glad the effect paid off, for the amount of time spent doing it ! LOL In the movie it seems you see a lot of it, but it's lot's of 4 second shots, so getting a real sense of the thing can be difficult. The crates have a surprising amount of detail to them, including these tiny symbols near the openings !

    1. Thank you Frank, I would like to try weathering powders, as it would be another string to the bow, and doing it with drybrushing, can go over the top in an instant ! LOL
