WHO ARE YOU ?

Continuing on with the denizens of the cantina I've managed to make a few more, so you may remember so you may not.

First is Dice Ibegon, now he appeared in both the original and the special addition, in the original he was growled at by Lak Sivrak, and by Ketwol in the special edition.

Next is Ketwol who only appeared in the special edition.

This is Kardue'sal'malloc, who appeared in both versions of the film, and actually had a screen shot of just him.

This M'ilyoom Onith, who appeared in both versions.

Next is Reegesk, who appeared in both versions, you only see him for a second or two on the right hand side of the screen when our heroes enter the cantina.

This next one is Tzizvvt, he is such a background character, that I had to rely on promo shots and Palitoy models to get all the details. The design reminds me of a 1950's horror film.

The last one today is Kitik Keed'kak, and is another extremely background character, reminds me of a preying mantis wearing a skirt.

It was good to actually have a use for the bar room furniture I made a while back, rather than models just standing around them.

That's all for today, more denizens to follow probably, so until next time stay safe and have fun !

Cheers Dave

  1. Just a staggering array of Cantina misfits and scum, Dave. Love the lot of them. Your attention to detail is absolutely staggering, and I continue to be amazed at the length of your research. One of my biggest surprises about the original Star Wars was that George Lucas wasn't happy with the occupants of the Cantina, and yet you make it increasingly clear just how much of an alien assortment the place was.

    1. Thank you Simon, it appears just when I think I've found all the patrons to do I stumble on more ! LOL
I think it was the lack of budget and technology that made him feel that way, even though it was probably one of the most loved scenes. I'm now at least half way through all the ones that I've found, and have another batch of 7 well underway 1

  2. Amazing work Dave, while I remember a lot of them I'm surprised there are models for them all or did you sculpt some of them yourself ?

    1. Thank you Frank, good that you recognised a lot of them, don't know if any of these characters were ever released by a company, I haven't been able to find them, these ones were all sculpted by me

  3. Brilliant stuff Dave! I could hear the cantina band in the background as I read through the post 😀 I'm sure you've seen it based on how deep a dive you've gone into all these background cantina patrons but there is some great black and white early footage of the cantina scene here that is a fun watch https://youtu.be/Q9lIi_gaULo

    1. Thank you Ivor, glad it made you think of the scene. Thank you for the link I hadn't actually seen that one in it's entirety before, only bits of it

  4. I don;t recollect any of these fromthe cantina scene (but then again I can't remember what day it is either).
So have you tracked down all the cantina patrons and staff now? you must have quite a few of themby now!
These are all great conversions/scratch-builds etc. and given the limited resource material available you've done a great job of these weird and onderful denizens.

    1. Thank you Joe, I know what you mean about the memory, I'll often walk into a room and think "what did I come in for !"
Found a few more characters last night that I didn't know about, which brings the total up to 25 to build or find, not including the 9 I'm currently working on, but at least I am over the half way mark.
Glad you like the scratch builds, wouldn't have been able to get this far through without being able to sculpt ! LOL

  5. These are great! I'm getting back into Star Wars because of the Mandolorian now.

    1. Thank you airbornegrove, the Mandolorian has been a fantastic series in my opinion, and I was pleased to see that Jon Faverau who was responsible for the series is helping on two more that are in the pipeline.

  6. OK now these are some really obscure characters, I recognise most of them, and you have done some fine renditions of them too! I always liked the expression on the "Devil" guy!

In the Documentary "Elmstree 77" they interview a woman who is supposed to be in the cantina scene, but I have to admit I've never seen her, even when I've looked out specifically for her! (can you shed any light on this?

    Cheers Roger.

    1. Thank you Roger, as I go further down the list, I'm getting to the hidden corners, or people who are stood behind people, so expect some more obscure ones in the future and some possibly that are easier to spot. The Devonian really had a memorable expression, I opted for more of a nutral expression as it was easier than sculpting all those teeth ! LOL
There were 5 women in the cantina scene, two stood at the bar with the cornroll hairstyles, a brunette that was sat next to Han, and if you check out the scene that Ivor listed above she kisses him also. There was a woman with a large dome head, who's stood next to all the spacemen on the left of the bar as Luke enters, there was also a blonde to the right of the bar sat in one of the alcoves, hope I've listed the one you were looking for

    2. Going on your descriptions I'd go for the Blonde in the alcove (she was blonde!)

      Cheers Roger.

  7. Dave, these are brilliant. Now you simply must do a Bea Arthur from the Christmas special...and that guy who poured a drink into his head. (Did I imagine that?)
Stellar work. Between the cantina and Obi-wan's house, you NEED to do a gaming report.

    1. Thank you Keith, I have seen that strange creation that was the Christmas special, hadn't planned on doing any of the characters from that cantina, but will see what I can do, don't remember the guy pouring the drink into his head, might have to sit through it again.
Was only thinking the other day about some more gaming reports so I will see what I can do for you
