PAINT WHAT YOU GOT CHALLENGE

At this time of year, we often have a dilemma, paint our new additions to the ever mounting pile of metal, plastic and resin models or finish off those existing models in the pile.

This new challenge is to help with motivation to finish up either so for someone like mark it would be more likely to work on his Conquistadores whereas Roger may want to paint up his new Elvira model he made just before Christmas.

As we all paint at different speeds, you set your own target, if you just want to paint a single model, then go for it, if you want to paint a vehicle, no problem, got a new piece of scenery, or one that's been collecting dust for years, paint away. There is no maximum target, and the only minimum is one model, you choose.

If you want to take part, leave a comment below, and list what your target is, the closing date will be 28/02/2021 so that gives you two whole months, why so long ? well with these ever changing times who knows how much time we'll have on our hands over the coming weeks, so 2 months should be plenty of time.

If you want to add to your target at a later point, because you've finished your first one, just add it to your reply below.

I will do a half way round up at the end of January, so we can all see each others progress, but you can always check out each others blogs and see as well.

So to start the ball rolling here's my target :

I was lucky enough to get some new Star Wars models for Christmas, but I have far too many unfinished projects as well, so for every new model I paint I intend to finish an old unit that needs painting, I currently have 3 units of Demonettes and a unit on steed that need painting (all of them are units of 6) so for 4 new models I'm going to clear 24 old ones. If I clear this then I will add to my target.

That's all for this post, so until next time stay safe and have fun !

Cheers Dave

  1. Target? I'm going to be vague and just say "Space marines that I've already started". I can't even say which chapter, since there's a good half-dozen of them or more sitting about. Also, maybe some more Zombie-Apocalypse Survivors.
Getting motivation to paint should be doable. Motivation to post may be a little trickier...

    1. Great to have you on board for another challenge mate, as your output on the scenery one was astounding ! Hopefully you can get through the minefield of the blog, as I'm sure we'd all love to see your fabulous work.

    2. Just to check.... it sounds like everything that we paint in the time period counts?
Also.. when was the start date? Jan 1st, or Dec 26th?

    3. Indeed mate, everything in the time period counts, including finishing part painted models, and everything from 26/12/2020, hope that clears it up for you

    4. Thanks for Clarifying, Dave. In that case, all of my December stuff will actually count.. once I post them up. Gotta knock out November's posts first, though!

  2. Hey Dave! As you know I am knee deep into finishing the Spanish Conquest project (and thanks for the shout out). My target will be the first complete 2021 unit - whatever that may be. Unless you want to count all I get done by Feb 28th!

    Best,

    Mark

    1. Welcome on board Mark, your most welcome on the shout out, who knows maybe you'll have them all done by the 28th and that could be the prize winning date !

  3. LOL I usually try to clean up my side pile every December; but this year I'm just focusing on getting all my Trek minis done. Hopefully I'll be successful...I only have one left!

    1. Great to have you on board for another challenge Keith, only one Trek model left, does that mean you've finished all the consoles ? lol

    2. Haven't even started them yet, Dave. I will paint them when I can think of a suitable scenario. (Klingons on the bridge! There. I just thought of one...)

    3. Look forward to seeing and reading that game Keith

  4. Excellent Dave, this might be the motivation I need to finish my MV Australis model from Black Site Studios - she's an absolute beast of a ship at over 4 feet long and I want to repaint it as well as add more "ship" details to it.

  5. NO,NO,NO,NO,NO!!!! Just what do you think you are doing! Encouraging Mark to paint quicker!! Don't you realise he's not allowed to finish his Conquistadores before May 20th!!!!

I've been waiting to see what you're challenge was going to be, and yep I'm in but I think I can manage a bit more than just "Elvira", (well maybe anyway), I do have something else, on the go at the moment, that I'll hopefully be able to finish before the end of Feb (I'm really hoping mid Jan!), but I'll reveal all in my first new year post (but it's definitely not 4 feet long!!).

    Good idea mate, Cheers Roger.

    1. Good to have you on board mate, look forward to seeing what you've got planned.
Don't think Mark needs any help with his speed, as he's 12 models through already ! LOL I chose March the 16th so if he finished them all in the challenge I'd have chosen the wrong date also ! LOL

    2. Well Dave and Roger, I am working to get done as quickly as I can without sacrificing quality! And Dave, you have the 15th of March - but I can give you the 16th if you'd prefer?

    3. The 15th is fine Mark, just my memory not being what it used to be ! LOL
Can fully appreciate the quality output your doing Mark as your latest batch are evident

    4. Thanks Dave! Have not had to deal with any shields yet, but that is coming. Plus swordsmen, command group, crossbowmen, wardogs, cavalry, and some dead horses! Some will go faster than others.

    5. Indeed, lot's of different challenges in the units, at least it shouldn't be boring with all those different units

I mostly spend January and February preparing stuff to paint later in the year, but maybe I should try and finish a unit for the end of February! The latest count shows I've got about 60-odd figures in various stages of unpreparedness, so spoilt for choice! But count me in and I'll maybe have a better idea by the end of January!

    1. Great to have you on board John, no problem as you form up your idea on what it is you can add to your comments on here, but I'll be keeping my normal eye on your blog anyway

  7. Great idea Dave, I'll aim to finish my Witch's warband for "Frostgrave", the remaining five heroes I need to complete an initial 10-character roster for "Marvel: Crisis Protocol", and all the models from my Iron Alliance starter set for "Warcaster". That should give me the push I need, LOL!!!

  8. I'll certainly be trying to finish my most recent models (recent in my world is the last five years), but I doubt I will ever re-visit the world of my shoebox full of 30mm plastics or the remanants of the several smaller piles of metal. The former is from the 70's whilst the latter is more recent - the late 90s !
54mm figures is a good bet for me as I'm finding smaller figures more of a trial.

    1. Look forward to seeing your 54 mm project progress Joe, and if the challenge helps with motivation, then it will have achieved what it was designed for

  9. Sounds good. I'll jump on board as well. I'll definitely be completing Frank's Pig Demon and a gnome with a dragon miniature from Hero Forge, which a friend asked me to paint.

    1. I forgot to ask, does the challenge have to be models you owned by a certain date?

    2. Great to have you on board as well Ann, sounds like a good exercise in clearing the decks, no time limit on how old the model is, it could be recent or be sat in your stash for years, no age restrictions

  10. Count me in! I have an old Falcon that needs a facelift so I'll see what I pull off by the deadline.
