ONE MORE POST BEFORE CHRISTMAS

Normally this time of year I'd be running around between family members dropping off presents, and spending time enjoying the festivities, this year is obviously very different, all presents were dropped off at the end of October as we had an idea that Christmas would be under lockdown conditions. This means I've had a little more time to get one last post in.

First today is Chalmun, that Ivor mentioned in my last post, if you're thinking I don't remember this character from the movie, you'd be right as he only appeared in a piece of concept art by Ralph McQuarrie for the cantina scene, he was later developed into the character Chewbacca instead of Ralph's original concept which later became Seb in Star Wars Rebels.

Next we have Karoly D'ulin, who could be seen propping up the bar while smoking what now looks like a vaping machine ( to think Star Wars had this idea 30 + years before it happened !)

Seen in the movie next to Karoly we have Shada D'ukal decided to pose her similar to her promo shot.

This next character is Solomahal and was sat on the table to the right of the entrance when Luke enters the bar.

These next two were strange additions in my book men in spacesuits the first one has a name Danz Borin

The next one is listed has cantina dude or spaceman 2

I've got two more spacemen to do but as they are both wearing the same suit, I've built the body legs and helmet and will take a cast to replicate and then just have two sets of arms to build, Ive also done the same with Nebrun and Chall but will show more on them once completed.

I saw this on Facebook this week and it made me laugh, then thought it would be fun to list your top ten Star Wars movies or series here is mine for example.

1 The Mandolorian (series)

2 Return of the Jedi (film)

3 Rogue One (film)

4 A New Hope (film)

5 Star Wars Rebels (series)

6 Empire Strikes Back (film)

7 Revenge of the Sith (film)

8 Attack of the Clones (film)

9 The Clone Wars (series)

10The Phantom Menace (film)

If you'd like to share yours in the comments feel free (I won't judge ! LOL) they may be very different but we all have different tastes, which is a good thing.

That's all for this post so until I post up the next challenge stay safe and have fun.

Cheers Dave

  1. A seriously mind-melting post, Dave. Danz Borin and his astronaut chums were actually one of my fave characters from A New Hope, as I always liked space suits as a lad; albeit I don't think I knew his name or trade (a rival bounty hunter to Greedo who was planning on tackling Solo himself that day) until I read it on his Star Wars TCG card. Franchise wise I'd have to say Empire Strikes Back, New Hope, Return Of The Jedi and then Rogue One. I don't like any of the prequels and have only watched the first Disney travesty. Never watched Solo either - and that hasn't been for want of trying, I just found it awful!!

    1. Thank you Simon, it's amazing how much extra information is out there throughout the expanded universe, in all it's mediums, it's hard to keep up sometimes.
Great choices Simon, personally I enjoyed Solo, and think Ron Howard did a good save from what the first director had been up to.

Like the minis, Dave! :-) I can't even remember the names and what happens in the more recent Star Wars films and counting to 10 is a challenge sometimes, so I'll just go with A New Hope, Clone Wars, Rebels and Rogue One as my top four for now!

  3. More Star Wars goodness, as to the list swap "Return of the Jedi" to number 5 and "Empire strikes back" to number 2, and that's my top five, I don't think I care about any of the others enough to put them in any order.

    Cheers Roger.

    1. Thank you Roger, interesting choices, as for not wanting to rank the others, that's perfectly reasonable

  4. Are you on medication yet for this obsessionof yours ?
Seriously good sculpting of some very interesting characters especially the original 'eookie' version, which I like enormously. It's a shameso many aremore like 1950s version of aliens, being basically acoter in costume with little imaginative makemup. However some of those you've featured over the last several week are truly inspired (spacemen - pah!) and you;ve managed to bring these more unique 'species' to the tablewith aplomb.
To mis-quote someone or other "We're goin to need a bigger cantina!"
I've seen a lot of Star wars stuff, but the first three (episodes 4 to 6 ?) are in declinign order my favourites. The very latest ones I can;t recollect seeing, and I was reallyput off by episodes 1-3 they really were poor imho.

A very Merry Xmas to you and yours - and keep safe !

    1. Thank you Joe, yes but they may need to up the dosage ! LOL
Indeed Joe, it's a trend I see too often in Sci-Fi that most aliens are human form with different faces, as if evolution on other planets would mirror what happens on Earth. I think a large part is budget, and also limitations of imagination.
At this rate I'm probably going to need a bigger room ! LOL
Interesting choices Joe and can fully understand your point of view.
Hope you and your family have a safe and Merry Christmas

  5. Great stuff Dave! That was the exact image of Chalmun I was thinking about when I referenced him in the last post - I love that vest and that grey mustache 😀

    1. Thank you Ivor, glad you liked him as it was your prompt that got me to get on with him.
Great selection, watched the gallery today, and puts into perspective how much they do for each episode and what real fans they all are

  6. More wonderful stuff Dave, I won't make a list as tbh I would be unable to decide what order to put things in, but the one I dislike most is Hans down Solo :) A very Marry Christmas to you & yours mate.

  7. These are great, Dave. Me and Alicia just binged on The Mandalorian and it's superb, easily better than the new sequels (although I do like them). I just hope they keep making more and don't screw it up.

    1. Thank you Matt, if you get chance watch the gallery, it shows you how big a fan group the directors are, and how much thought goes into what they do.
From what I've read there is a third season being done, Jon Faverau is also working on the new series Ahsoka, plus we have the book of Boba Fett to look forward to as well, plus there is a series on Kenobi, and a couple more cartoon series including the Bad Batch, so should be something for everyone in that lot.

  8. Lovely looking characters, my previous question answered! They're making a new TV series at themoment, I guess it will only be on Disney, I liked Rogue one, not so keen on solo and haven't seen the mandalorian although I've only heard good things about it, have as good a Christmas as you can!
    Best Iain

    1. Thank you Iain, by my calculation I've got 15 more to go 4 more aliens, 2 more spacemen and then a lot of humans.
Lot's of series in the works, but as you say all on Disney +, The guys working on Mando are real fans and love adding in little bits that fans get.
Hope you have a safe and Merry Christmas

  9. Awesome sculpts, Dave!
As for ordering the Star Wars.. we've been watching the stuff in in-universe chronological order as a lead-in to rewatching Mando S1 and then S2. Not a bad idea since I'd never watched either of the Clone Wars series or the animated film, nor more than a few episodes of Rebels, so I'm going to hold my final judgement.

I do have to say that Episodes 1 and 2 are far, far worse than I remembered, and I think there are a lot of rose-tinted and rose-tinted-childhood memory-goggles going around the net with the nostalgia for them over the new movies (at least the JJ ones). Ryan may have been atrocious, but it doesn't make Lucas surrounded by yes-men a good director by any means...

There are good *bits* in them, but even those don't stand up as well as they did to me say, a decade ago.

  10. Cheers mate, glad you liked them.
That's a fair point if your currently watching them at the moment, I think for me I didn't enjoy the J.J. ones as he was basically remaking 4,5, and 6 with weaker characters, and so brought nothing new to the table, but that's only my opinion

  11. Another great post Dave. More coolness all the time. Top ten you say? Thats a hard one. I tend to be attracted to what I watched most recently. Ill give this a try.

    Rogue One
    A New Hope
    Solo
    Revenge of the Sith
    Revenge of the Jedi
    The Mandalorian
    Empire Strikes Back
    Attack of the Clones
    The Last Skywalker
    Clone Wars

For now. I really dont like picking ten, because I do enjoy them all. And they flit in and out depending on my mood.

    1. Thank you Harry, hope you had a great Christmas. Interesting how your mood can change how you see a movie, as I can get the same. It's why I've tried watching the last trilogy several times, but still don't like them, but that's just me
