COURT OF PAIN

To start the community challenge I've finished a unit of Wracks for my Dark Eldar army, these models have sat basecoated for about a year now, and in plastic for a lot longer than that, so was about time I got them finished, which is what the challenge is all about.

While working on these I also finished off my only Grotesque model I have, the reason I only have one is due to this being the only model available from GW and only available in Finecast, which I'm not a fan of.

So while looking at this model I came up with a solution and started building some new models.

I will be releasing the models through the website as close combat flesh constructs, once I've got these cast I will then add more details to them to make them look Dark Eldar.

That's all for this post so until next time stay safe and have fun !

Cheers Dave

  1. Good work on the Dark Eldar Dave. Clearly GW need to give them a bit of an update if some of the minis are still Failcast. Noce start on the close combat flesh constructs too.

    1. Thank you Simon, the Dark Eldar range actually has quite a few that are still Finecast, which tends to steer me away from them, I've got 7 in total, 5 of the Wracks shown above, the Grotesque and a Medusae, which I haven't painted, everything else they've released I've built my own version instead. Not bad seeing I only made the frames Thursday ! LOL

  2. Lovely work, Dave, but will you slow down a bit? I've barely primed the unit I'm painting :-)

I don't know what these minis are (off to google I go) but they look awesome and horrible. Your sculpts look amazing and I can't wait to see them finished.

    1. Thank you Matt, challenges should always be about pushing yourself personally, with the support of the group if you need it. Never judge by someone else's output as we all work at different speeds. It's taken many years to get up to this speed, and I wont think anything less of a person if they do one unit in the time compared to someone who does 5.
I always think of these as GW's version of the Cenobites from Hellraiser, where they take pleasure in inflicting pain, and experiment on themselves and others. Only managed to sculpt one leg yesterday so need to try and pick up the pace, as by the end of the month I'd like to have 9 converted and painted

  3. Until a couple of days ago I would have no idea what these "Dark Eldar" figures were supposed to be, but a friend at work has passed ne all his old White Dwarves to look through before they go in the bin! So now I can say with confidence that you've done a good job on these "Wracks" and your "Grotesque", and a smashing idea to add to them while also adding to your own ranges too.

    Cheers Roger.

    1. Thank you Roger, it is always easier to see what someone is trying to do if you know the source material, so that was well timed.
Seemed worth while making something that all can utilise not just me, and gives me some new releases as well.

    1. Thank you Frank, I blame the hobby head, keep sending the business head off on team building exercises ! LOL
If I hadn't been able to sculpt, it probably would have cost me a small fortune to achieve what I wanted to do, but do like to make things possible for others as much as possible

  6. as usual, I haven;t any idea of what these figures are, but they do look gruesome and evil. I wish I had the skills to sculpt, you're very skilled and your 'reinforcments' should be well recieved.

    1. Thank you Joe, if they appear gruesome and evil then I have achieved the right look. As for sculpting it is like any other skill in this hobby, practice, practice, practice, and be willing to experiment and not worry about failing. I have seen a lot of your creations and you have the makings of a great modeller yourself Joe
