INSPIRED !

Recently Dai posted up his finished space marine statue on his blog lostdamnedstunted which inspired me to dust mine off and finally get it painted. While looking at it deciding on how to paint it, I realised why I had left it for so long, the smoothness of the plastic was saying paint in metal colours, but the fracture lines was saying it should be stone, then I thought what about marble, as that is smooth with the same fracture lines as stone, and so I came up with this

While I was doing this I decided to paint the ruined Aquilla at the same time with the same technique.

I have also finished a squadron of flyers for my marines as well, two just needing finishing and one was a complete paint.

Now with people being stuck at home, and keeping their distance, I've been thinking on what can I do to help my fellow bloggers ? The answer is help in any way I can, so if there is a sculpting technique, or painting technique, you would like me to do a step by step guide to just ask, you can ask on here or if you want you can email at the business address and I'll answer any questions you have, the same goes for scenery making happy to help with any and all.
Until next time stay strong and have fun !

    1. Thank you Michael, saw it on a episode of Changing Rooms many years ago, and it works for small scale. Can do a sbs on it if you would like, and it’s worth practicing on a flat surface before trying a complex shape

    1. Thank you Joe, must have done something right then! lol my wife wasn’t keen on the white fracture lines as she thought they were a bit bright, but I liked them

  3. Innovative idea with the marble, it looks just right. You do a good job on the flat surfaces of machines but I'm sure I've said that before so ignore my last comment if it reminds you of deja vu.

    1. Thank you John, I’ve only tried the marble a couple of times before, and was pleased with the results.
I actually struggle with vehicles and flat surfaces and never quite get the results I’m happy with, but then I’m very critical of my own work

  4. Ha ha I was going to say I saw a chap doing that sort of thing on a fireplace on TV years ago, then read your comment about changing rooms, and yes I saw it these too! Looks awesome Dave, now that I would never even think of attempting on something that small. Your ships are really nice too by the way.

    Cheers Roger.

    1. Thank you Roger, the one I remembered was a female designer doing a table, and the first time I tried it was a big cabinet in a GW store to make it look like a choas alter, smaller scale and different paint means working in smaller areas and working quicker, but doable.
Still got another 3 flyers to do to clear the backlog, and then came up with a new idea for a new one, luckily GW is closed ! lol

  6. Good call on the using marble as it solved the problem nicely Dave, the flyers turned out well with a nice crisp & clean paint job.

    1. Thank you Frank, was unsure if it would work as I’d only done flat surfaces before.
I really should do some weathering on the flyers to make them look used, guess I’ll be looking at some scale modeller work for ideas

  7. Lovely bit of marbling! I like the flyers, maybe some should be neater than others?

    1. Thank you Iain, your absolutely right on the flyers, they're all too clean and a varying amount of weathering would give them a more individual feel
