DEFENDER

No I'm not talking the old arcade game, but another variation on the TIE fighter the Defender Elite, this was developed by Grand Admiral Thrawn, before the completion of the Death Star, so fits in the timeline I'm working with, and was also a major part of the Star Wars Rebels series, which I am a huge fan of, so having one of these was a must for me. The model is a 3D filament print, so less detail than the previous model I did for the Interceptor, also it's not an accurate portrayal from the reference, but I've worked with what I have.

Painting wise I went simple, as the weathering mix I have would have shown up all the lines. As the wings aren't exact I've modified the edge colours to give it the right feel. I think this completes my TIE collection for now, as the Phantom was created later, the only other one's would be an Inquisitor's or Vader's but I probably wouldn't use them very often, so that just leaves me to build an Imperial Shuttle, which I will get round to at some point. That's all for today, so until next time, stay safe, and have fun !

Cheers Dave

  3. Amazing stuff. 3D prints can be really useful.
Any chance of a 'hanger shot' of your fleet at some point? It would be awesome.

    1. Thank you misterc, yes 3D prints can certainly help fill some gaps, and saves a lot of scratch building ! LOL
I'll see what I can do, will probably have to split it into two Imperials and Rebels as my photography isn't good enough to do all at the same time ! LOL

    1. Thank you Stewart, It was a big part of the storyline in Star Wars Rebels, and had shields, which TIE's didn't normally, also upgraded weapons including torpedoes and also a hyper drive, the factory that made them was destroyed on Lothal before they went into full production, thankfully for the Rebellion.

  5. Hard to kill with the shields these things had/have. Really like the red included in your scheme. Good stuff matey.

Re: the Shuttle - if it's going to be in scale with these ships, you're looking at a HUGE build!

    1. Thank you Dai, the best way to take these damn things out, is to hit them on the airfield ! LOL Tried to use the Rebels version as inspiration, as had to modify because of different shapes.
Indeed it will be a big build, ordered a 3D print that said it was Legion scale, when it arrived it was smaller than the TIE ! LOL It might come in handy for background shots flying.

  8. Ah the Tie Defender, yours came out looking great! Are you thinking of doing the Tie Avenger that’s in the latest season of Andor?

    1. Thank you SD, was happy with the result, especially with the lines from the print. I did see the Avenger, an interesting ship indeed, I may well keep an eye out for one, but only if it's a resin print.

  9. This is a new Tie fighter design to me and while I think it looks pretty sleek, I can't quite get over seeing red on an imperial ship. That makes me think of X-wings. With that said, I think you did a lovely job painting this one up and you must have a hangar bay full of ships at this point!

    1. Thank you Jeff, when they were first revealed they had yellow markings on them, but I always felt they got lost in the white, so preferred the red. In the X-Wing game there was a TIE that was all red, which was a character, a flying ace, but I felt that was too much red ! LOL Hopefully will get some fleet shots done this week, as several eople have asked.
