Sorting through my stuff has revealed not only do I have a lot of gaming models that need finishing but a lot of display models need a splash of paint too !
First to get a lick of paint is the dog alien from Alien 3, when I first saw the film, I thought what an unusual colour, until I realised it was a reflection of the lighting, having done a bit more research I found it was supposed to be the normal dark blue same as the other aliens that had been seen in the previous movies.
I decided I wanted a nod to both, and went for a single point OSL ( objective source light ).
Hope you enjoyed this large scale model as they're will be a few more coming up, that's all for this post, so until next time have fun !
Cheers Dave
Awesome stuff, Dave. One of my fave aliens from the movies too :-)
ReplyDeleteThank you Simon, always thought a dog in a prison was a bit weird until I saw the extended version where the alien came out of a cow which made a lot more sense to me. I did like it's streamlined look and greater agility though
DeleteThis is exquisite Dave, both as a model and your painting of it, very very nice.
ReplyDeleteThank you John, I don’t play with OSL very much, and tend to save it for a model that needs it.
DeleteOSL! Dave you are so far out there. I'm pleased to get paint on them.
DeleteNothing wrong with getting paint on models John, however you choose to do it. I’ve only ever really tried OSL once before, so wanted to challenge myself
DeleteThat is sensational Dave! So good, the sheen is just amazing.
ReplyDeleteThank you Michael, the sheen was achieved with artist varnish, which is why I left off the edge highlights as they can contradict the varnish
DeleteWow you've hit that one out of the ballpark Dave, I remember my eldest son doing some of them years back they really are a fab model.
ReplyDeleteThank you Frank, it’s taken a long time to get this model into paint, so glad I’ve done it justice. Was a great kit and would like to get the normal alien model to go with it
DeleteSplendid version of one of the aliens! Very unpleasant!
ReplyDeleteBest Iain
Thank you Iain, they are very iconic indeed
DeleteThat is one fantastic model and unbelievable painting.
ReplyDeleteThank you Joe, was an easy kit to put together for the most part, just a couple of tricky fills to do, and with such a large scale model really needed to push the painting on this one
DeleteAn absolutely beautiful pain job, Dave. Very impressive.
ReplyDeleteThank you Jez, needed to step up my game on this one to try and capture the film

ReplyDeleteFantastic! 3 was my fav of the bunch by far (Novelisation was even better). You've made it look right out of the flick.
ReplyDeleteThank you Dai, glad I could capture the feel of the movie, liked the extended version more, made more sense to me. Never read the book is it similar to the leaked screen play ?
DeleteBeen a while, but yeah, that extended version really made it all make sense more. I feel the general public got shafted with the regular release and that's why it got panned.
DeleteHave to say I didn't get to read the leaked screenplay. The novelisation added lots though where the film seemed to have gaps, Ripley and the doc for example having far more than a casual friendship.
The screen version wasn’t bad and didn’t deserve the bad press, the extended version was way better but the film companies were worried at the time that no one would watch a movie that long, I would have watched the 5 hour version of Dune ! lol
DeleteThe extended version showed more of the relationship between them, but not as much as the book did by the sound of it. Was lucky enough to see a copy of the leaked script and would have been an awesome movie
Your OSL has captured the look from the alien in the movie perfectly.
ReplyDeleteThank you Wouter, was a great challenge
