MECHANISMO UPDATE

So this week has been mostly taken up with painted orders and finalising the house move, which all being well will start next week. I have however made a bit of progress on my Mechanismo entries, first the FX medical assistant just needs the dome and umbilical arm finishing and will be ready for paint.

J4X-7 looks less like a blob now, but still needs lot's of work, but I have decided to go with tracks for it's form of movement and probably going to go with sensors on the top pillar.

Zippo is the furthest along, and just needs his lower arms finishing and a couple of symbols, then on to the painting.

I have cast up an R4, R5, and 2 RA7's ready for painting so all going well should have these done shortly.

WHAT MAKES US TICK !
Been reflecting in recent months on what makes us take part in this hobby and why we do what we do ! Now I have played games with unpainted models, even paper tokens, but for me I get as much enjoyment out of making, and painting the models as I do gaming. I have also played solo, right up to tournament level gaming, and for me I always enjoyed the social aspect of gaming against someone, rather than controlling all the aspects. Now that's just the way I enjoy to play, and would never think of telling anyone that's the way to do it.
This then got me thinking about why we comment on other blogs, I've been commenting longer than I've been blogging by well over a year, and still like to comment as often as I can, which in recent months hasn't been as much as I used to due to constraints on my time, and if I have offended anyone because I've missed a post of yours, my deepest apologies, no slight was meant.
Now as we all have different tastes and interests, people may post up subjects from time to time that I have no interest in, but I still try to comment as I follow that persons blog, and like to show that I've seen their post, and respect the time and effort they've put into it.
What I'm trying to say is no matter how you enjoy this hobby, as long as your not hurting anyone else, enjoy it in whatever form makes you happy and remember we are a community that should support each other.
Until next time have FUN !
Cheers Dave

  1. Always a pleasure seeing your green stuff at work, Dave, and obviously this is THE Star Wars hobbying blog in my books, so you've ticked two boxes of mine with this posting.

Personally I don't mind if people comment on my blog or not, as long as when they do they're polite - no problems with them being critical either, just do it politely. I do dislike it when I'm repeatedly told they don't like a range or company I'm clearly enjoying painting though because what I paint/post on my blog is for me, not them, and I always read into such comments that they seem to think I should only enjoy/post what they like - and as you say "we all have different tastes and interests". Far better, imho, to just not comment. Albeit even if I don't like a range/paint-job someone else posts, I personally still enjoy seeing/reading all about their enthusiasm for their given mini/genre, even if it isn't my particular cup of tea, and will do my best to thank them for posting as they always inspire me to crack on with my own projects.

    1. Thank you Simon, thought you might like both the Star Wars and A.B.C Warrior.
Indeed constructive criticism can be useful, but negativity isn't needed. I'm not worried either if people post up on my blog, as you say it's there for me to encourage me on to get my projects done. I have seen multiple subjects that do nothing for me, but can appreciate that that blogger likes it and the work they've put in to painting or gaming with it, and if I can offer help as you know, I will in the form of tips or ideas, even the odd model or two ! LOL

  2. Lovely progress Dave, but how did you manage to get the arms at the bottom of FX7 looking so great? As for commenting, like you I like to try and comment as much as I can, but sometimes I just miss a few.

Best of luck on the move!

    1. Thank you Michael, can't take the credit for the bottom arms, that detail came on the model that I got from Tritex Games. I know what you mean on the comments as it's so easy to miss a post with real life getting in the way ! LOL
Hope the move goes smoothly, but should have roughly a month to get it done, so we'll start moving all the stuff we don't need on a daily basis, and move the last bits over on the final weekend.

  3. All three droids are coming along very nicely, Dave.
I think you have pretty much hit the nail on the head regarding blogging and commenting on other peoples' blogs. I would never dream of telling anyone not to post stuff that doesn't interest me. That would be rude and uncalled for. Better to say nothing than something hurtful or offensive. Your reply to Simon's well worded comment was bang on the money and one I'd endorse fully. We may not all like the same things but how boring would it be if we did? As for myself, I couldn't care less if no one comments on any of my posts. I blog primarily for my own enjoyment and if someone else likes a post of mine and leaves a favourable comment than that's a bonus. If they choose not to comment then that's fine. I won't take it personally. I will always welcome constructive criticism.
QUOTE: "What I'm trying to say is no matter how you enjoy this hobby, as long as your not hurting anyone else, enjoy it in whatever form makes you happy and remember we are a community that should support each other." I couldn't have put it better myself, Dave. Spot on!

    1. Thank you Bryan, am enjoying working on them when I get time.
If I worried about people commenting on the blog I’d have stopped commenting on theirs before now, so fully understand what you mean. I’d rather support other hobbyists than tell them their doing it wrong as it is a very personal thing.
With such diversity available it’s always interesting to see what others are working on as it may be something I’ve missed and may be interested in.

  4. Amazing work on these 'bots so far - you continue to amaze and inspire by sharing your work-in-progress sculpts Dave, and long may it continue :-)

As for blog comments, I fully endorse Bryan's quote above and have to admit being guilty in the recent past of not posting on the blogs I follow as often as I should. Yep, I've got a string of lame excuses, but that's all they are - and nothing a few changes of habit / routine can't put right!
Thanks for the wake up call :-)

I know from personal experience, real life can throw a curve ball and all good intentions go right out the window, so I wouldn't worry mate, it happens to us all ! LOL

    1. Thank you Roger, I thought he was an interesting addition to the warriors, to make him for casting, I probably would have made the arms separate, then have all the different options he had

    1. Thank you Steve, yes droids are very versatile, looking at adding to our robot range at some point because of this.

  8. Do you think Star Wars robots would work in a Judge Dredd game, and vice versa: or do they look too out of place with one another?

    1. A robots a robot at the end of the day, now each source material has it's own style, and if you want specific robots from a source then the answer would be no, but it's down to the individual and what they want to use after all

  9. Thanks Dave. Was a pretty vague question I know. Just that SW has so many in... well, almost all film shots somewhere or other, and they seem to be a daily part of life in MC1. I guess I just wondered (not being a mega aficionado of JD) if the two styles might be combinable, or whether SW ones might look just that - too Star Warsy?

    1. No problem, it's all a personal perception in the end, if you want to use 21-B in Judge Dredd do it, it's not going to hurt anyone else.
