HALFWAY

Continuing on with the Imperial starter set I've finished the first squad of Stormtroopers using the same painting method I recently showed, the construction of this squad  is straight from the instruction sheet. The first three are the squad leader, missile launcher, and heavy blaster. I painted the Squad leader as a commander, as the only one I have painted so far was the Imperial Assault one.

The troopers come in sets of two of the same pose, this is disappointing compared to the old box, as the whole squad was different.

I can probably mix them around with the old squads to get some variation between them all. To get half way I needed to paint half of Darth Vader, so went further and actually finished him, have to say the thinness of the cloak was really nice, and the details were nice and crisp.

Now as promised pictures of the Northern Lights, the first one was taken on the strongest light show in 26 years unfortunately we had a lot of cloud that night so couldn't see much, the glow in the centre is where it is trying to break through.

This next one looked like a cloud to the naked eye but with a slow exposure on the camera showed it was actually the lights.

This last one was actually visible to the naked eye, in blue and green and danced and moved across the sky, it was so strong that it showed through even in a well light area !

That's all for today, so until next time, stay safe, and have fun !

Cheers Dave

    1. Thank you Roger, getting a bit bored of white might need a break and finish something else, before it drives me insane ! LOL Watching it in the sky was amazing, it was a truly memorable experience.

  3. Vader and his Stormies look spot on Dave! Even with the doubling of the poses, I'm sure once on the tabletop and mixed up they'll look just fine.

Those pics of the Northern Lights were lovely mate. Very happy you got to see that show and rather envious too!

    1. Thank you Dai, I have a large number of squads from the previous sets, so should be able to mix them up, plus I swapped the arms around on some of them as well ! LOL

    2. The lights were amazing, and if you get the chance to see them, would heartily recommend, but it is very much luck of the draw on seeing them.

  4. I relate to what you say about the identical Stormtroopers, that kind of stuff always bugs me and try to repose what I can. But wow, the Northern Lights are awesome, what a set of incredible pics!

    1. Thank you Suber, I normally do the same but these new kits really don't convert easily, as you'll see on the next squad ! LOL
We were thinking we wouldn't get to see them at all, as the first 3 days the cloud was so heavy, then we did they were amazing.

  5. You're doing an awful lot of white currently, Dave. I can't do more than 2-3 Napoleonic Austrians without needing to take a break, so my hat is well and truly off to you, LOL!!! Splendid stuff on Darth & his cronies. I still have plenty of the original Stormtroopers to paint, so I doubt I'll get the new set. But it is disappointing to hear they're duplicating poses in them.

    1. Thank you Simon, currently finishing something else off that doesn't involve so much white, before ploughing in to the next half ! LOL At one point I had so many Stormtroopers to paint it was very daunting, so I try not to let them build up now ! LOL The poses was annoying, but they should mix in with the older squads well to add variation.

  6. Stormies looking good, Dave - can you swap the arms onto different models? That might give a bit more variety if it can work. The Northern Lights look pretty bloody amazing - certainly a sight to remember!

    1. Thank you Azazael, I swapped the two special weapons on the second squad to standing models, and then put the relevant blasters on the kneeling models, I had to cut off one of the locating lugs on each set, and fill a big gap with green stuff, so they are not quick swaps, as each model has different arm lugs, so will mix these models in with other squads to move them around ! LOL
The lights were truly something to see, as the week progressed we worried we wouldn't get to see them, then we saw the two types in one night ! LOL

    2. Thank you Frank, not as often as I would like, but hopefully when my gaming room gets finished this year, I will game more and post up the battle reports.
I can't comment on my phone as it will not recognise my account at all, so have to wait until I'm at the computer ! LOL

    1. Thank you misterc, was very pleased with the different textures on Vader, I think it's my best version of him so far.
Was amazing to see, but you have to be willing to go out a lot of times in the hope to see them, guided tours can be useful for the cloud type so you know what to look for.

  9. The troopers look great and I like the weathering you added to them. Vader is Vader and looks awesome too! :) Those pictures of the Northern Lights are beautiful. They make me want to book a trip to Alaska and that's saying something considering we're still in the winter doldrums here.

    1. Thank you Jeff, nice to reach half way on the box set, and Vader was fun to do, and push the multiple styles of black. It was a magical experience to see, but the minus 30 degrees Celsius was a bit harsh, so would suggest wrapping up warm if you do go ! LOL

    1. Thank you Iain, the stormtroopers recipe is pretty well defined at this point, but Vader was more of a challenge, so glad you like it.

Surprise, surprise, Dave, I'm well behind again! These all look really good - I quite like the stormtrooper kneeling with the heavy weapon!

    1. Thank you John, no worries mate. When I show the other squad the kneeling poses have blasters, as I swapped them around to get some variation.
