Any expansion often starts small, and this one is no exception, one thing one of my regular gaming buddies said about my Kroot Army was that it felt Marine like in it's construction, all the squads being uniform in squads of 10, and felt uneven numbers and differing ones would feel more organic. As I had three models left from the box of carnivore's I thought why not add them to some of my existing squads, rather than starting a new one. The two squads I chose were my basic squads with no extra bells or whistles, as these are the primary squads of an army. I looked at the poses I had, two were slow ambling poses, and one was running, as my two basic squads are either static or in motion, this was easy to appropriate them. Here are the two static poses.
Below is the running pose.
I did add some bits from the bits box on all three, so they matched the existing models in the squads, things like pistols in holsters, and chunks of meat. As I move forward with this project, I will continue to add to these two squads first, hopefully bringing both up to squads of 20 before adding to any of the other units. That's all for today, so until next time, stay safe, and have fun !
Cheers Dave
Those look nice. 😀
ReplyDeleteThank you Stewart, hopefully you mean nice like a majestic eagle, not a fluffy bunny nice ! LOL
DeleteThey look definitely cool, and it's a nice planning touch that you make uneven squads. This is all a 10 in my book
ReplyDeleteThank you Suber, there's one squad I can't change the Hunter Kindred as they are a maximum size of 10, but all the other squads are fair game ! LOL
DeleteGreat stuff, they look fantastic.
ReplyDeleteI guess it's true, an army is never finished.
Thank you misterc, indeed I thought I'd finished this army, then GW went and released a load of new models, what a way to draw me back in ! LOL
DeleteSo much movement in these newer sculpts. Love it.
ReplyDeleteKroot should be non-uniform. I mean, they eat different stuff to take on it's dna to change their bodies - that could be a bird, or a rat or a snail - whatever is easy to snatch imo. Nothing uniform about that at all, so why would their groupings be uniform?
Thank you Dai, Indeed a more organic feel would suit them, so I will change most of the squad sizes over time, there are two that will stay as 10's the sniper squad, as that was their maximum, and the new shotgun squad, as it's very specialised, the rest will fall between the 10 and the 20 mark somewhere ! LOL
DeleteYou know that is a good point, I never think how the force organization is itself a way to give each army flavor, I'm used to things always having to be in units of 10s.
ReplyDeleteThank you SD, indeed my Emperor's Children army uses the number 6 as it's base line as that is there sacred number, doesn't make them very strong, but characterful, hopefully by adding more Kroot, it will make the units stronger, and also bring this army closer in size to my others ! LOL
DeleteNice , fluffy kroot! I think my khorne and nurgle armies are the only ones where I don't have units in ten, like your chaos troops I used the sacred number set up, smart looking sculpts and Great paint job!
ReplyDeleteBest Iain
Thank you Iain, I really enjoy painting the Kroot, so adding to their numbers, just gives me cause to paint more ! LOL With the Chaos forces, for me was always go with the sacred number, even if it didn't make them formidable ! LOL
