FINNISH WITH A FURRY FACE

As November draws to a close I have one last Movember post, when I received the Bespin Gambit box set for my Birthday in October, I realised I would have plenty of entries for this years challenge, as I've already shown the Ugnaughts, here now is the Bespin Guard that also came in the set. All six models are supplied the same, so I decided early on I would do multiple skin tones, to add variation, and would be totally fitting to the guards in the movie. I also changed the full beard to a goatee on three of them and then did these in multiple skin tones as well.

For anyone who doesn't know these appeared in the movie "The Empire Strikes Back" and were on the cloud city Bespin, they were the local law enforcement, and under Lando's direction rose up against the Empire with the help of Lobot, to free Leia, Chewbacca and C3PO.

Below is the reference picture I based the uniform on.

This now concludes my entries for Movember for another year, and not a bad number for this year. In other news this is my 400 th post, never thought I'd get to this high a number !LOL so until next time stay safe and have fun !

Cheers Dave

  2. The colour scheme on these gys is very subtle with the thin stripes on their fromts and the maroon cuffs - I doubt I'd have even noticd the front line, let alone painted them. Great ending to the challenge.

    1. Thank you Joe, I'd painted a couple previously, so knew what to look for, so made it easier, these FFG models actually had the setails pretty well sculpted, to make it easier than the old wizards of the Coast version.

  3. I wonder how much of a punishment was meted out upon the poor Bespin station as a whole after Calrissian's doublecross? Not sure many of those Bespin guards would have gotten away with their lives in all honesty.

Good stuff Dave - shame they couldn't add in an extra pose or two in the mix though.

400 is a great milestone! Congrats!

    1. Thank you Dai, as everyone was told to evacuate, I imagine the Empire would be shooting as many as they could before they left, but if they considered the structure to be a valuable asset I would imagine they placed their own people in there pretty quickly, if not they would have destroyed it.
That was the main problem with Imperial Assault, all the same pose, at least it's better in Legion.
I was surprised at how much I'd posted ! LOL

Nicely done, Dave! :-) I like the variation you've got despite being limited by a single pose! And quite an achievement getting 400 posts, so well done you!

    1. Thank you John, the skin tone change was the easiest way to add variation, and was a fitting tribute to the actors from the film, never imagined getting to a 100 let alone 400 ! LOL

    1. Thank you Suber, it helps putting them at slightly different angles to the camera as well ! LOL

  6. I've done almost nothing at all for the past three months, but one thing I managed to do prior to that was paint those Bespin Guards! I love your work, and those wanted posters are really cool!

    1. Thank you Keith, I'm looking forward to seeing your Bespin Gambit set, and you were right a quick box to do with only 11 models. I found the posters through a google search, saved them and then shrunk them down to the desired size, I have some more for when I get round to doing some more buildings.

  7. 400 posts! Well done, Dave! The minis look great and making them all look a bit different from each other really adds some realism to the squad.

    1. Thankyou Matt 120 of those posts were on the previous blog, but they still count as I wrote them, and did the work ! LOL As soon as I saw the models I knew which guy they had been based off, but had to add some variation to the unit.

  9. I did like the Bespin uniforms when I first saw "Empire" so many moons ago, but never bought the action figure for some reason - preferring the Bespin pilot figure instead. However, you've definitely done Lobot's men proud, and what a worthy subject to both finish Movember on and your 400th post - hearty congratulations!!!

    1. Thank you Simon, probably best not to think about how long ago it was ! LOL I did have the figure of both back in the day, and now have a decent size force in this scale, although a second pilot figure and cloud car wouldn't go amiss ! LOL

  10. Congrats on 400 posts! That is a real milestone and I'm pretty sure you're well ahead of me :) I instantly recognize these guys from being such a big Star Wars fan but I can't say that they accomplished much in Empire Strikes Back. Darth Vader and company pretty much took the place over from under their noses! Fortunately, the minis look great and are ready to hit any battlefield across the galaxy! :)

    1. Thank you Jeff, you can blame Blaxkleric for me blogging, as it was he who introduced me to his blog many years ago after purchasing some of our scenery ! LOL They were very much a background force in the movie, and didn't have the skills to take on the Empire head on, but what struck me back then was it was a force that was open to all with so many ethnicities in it, which was a great turning point in the Star Wars franchise, and thankfully has continued on since then.

  11. Nice work on these chaps Dave, they might have catered to all ethnicities, but I doubt many women were in the ranks as I don't think they could achieve the beard and moustache requirements! 😂😂😂

Nice Mo'vember entry mate, cheers Roger.

    1. Thank you Roger, indeed too early in the 80's for gender equality, thankfully that has been rectified in more recent movies and series ! LOL Funnily in the movie there wasn't that many with beards or moustaches, so it was weird that the model was modelled with full facial hair, but did give me a bunch of models for Movember ! LOL
