So between the heat and some jobs that needing doing, I haven't got as much done this week as I would like, but I have achieved one thing. When I showed my Kroot Great Knarloc, I mentioned I wished I'd got a couple more while they were available, so I've been keeping an eye out for some anywhere I could, thankfully I managed to find the baggage version recently, and got it painted this week, as the pictures below will show.
Now where did I manage to find this model, Ebay, Etsy ? Well the Forgeworld aficionado's of you will probably already have guessed I made it, as I've been really struggling to locate one, and have now already started the third one I wanted, the one thing the heat helped with was curing times of the greenstuff ! LOL

When I saw the first pic I thought, "I wonder if he made that" and bugger me, I was right! Nicely done Dave, it and the unpainted one look amazing and good enough to be sold in a store. I really like the blue and red scheme, it works really well as an alien look and both those models are pretty terrifying!

DeleteAlso, as a fellow Brit (albeit in the USA) I think British bloggers need to use "bacon sandwich" instead of "PB&J" on the grounds that peanut butter and jelly (jam) sandwiches are revolting and I will fight anyone who says otherwise.
ReplyDeleteMMMM Bacon ! LOL one of the other suggestions on Stewarts blog was Cheese and Pickle, and must admit to never having tried a PB&J sandwich, so couldn't comment on what they are like ! LOL
DeleteTerrific work, Dave, absolutely terrific. That's one of my fave sculpts you've done, and looks excellent painted up. I have seen similar 3D-sculpted "killer chickens" on Etsy, but I feel they were a little smaller in size than this beast you're constructed. It looks monstrous - what size is the base it towers over..?
ReplyDeleteThank you Simon, it's always tricky replicating someone else's work especially a sculptor I like like Daniel, and wanted to make sure to emulate his work as close as possible. This one ended up slightly bigger than my Forgeworld Knarloc, but creatures do come in different sizes, so I'm okay with it, the base is 75 mm x 45 mm oval.

ReplyDeleteThank you Michael, as there is so many pictures around of these creations on the internet, I really had to push to make it look like Forgeworld's model, mine ended up with a few more bits of stowage, and I didn't bind the beak like theirs, as I wanted thge creature to be able to attack opponents.

Thank you Joe, that is a high compliment indeed. I've been playing with the technique of building a soft core, using the builders foam, and strengthen it with cocktail sticks, then skinning it in the normal way, means the models are super light, I even did the larger sacks the same way, as it saves a lot of greenstuff.
DeleteThat's some nice green stuff work, had no idea at first! Now, with all the money you saved from not buying a Forgeworld model, you can treat yourself to something nice like a new house! ;)

ReplyDeleteThank you John, always good to challenge ourselves from time to time, and that heat was certainly one ! LOL, I think my sculpting had stagnated recently, so this was a good challenge to sculpt in someone else's style, and to try and achieve the same look they got, especially as they were working in a different medium.

The Heatwave has subsided at the moment, and back to the normal rain, which is cooling the air temperature, the negative is if the heat comes back it will raise the humidity again ! LOL You know me mate, always happy to help a fellow Blogger out ! LOL

Thank you Stewart, maybe it is a gourmet version of a PB&J then ! LOL The sculpt was a fun exercise, and felt I learned a lot with the coring method I've been working on.

Thank you Roger, was a tricky one to do, but happy with the results. Materials wise probably cost about £5, so a lot less than a Forgeworld one, then and now ! LOL
