MORE THAN A DIRTY DOZEN

I've managed to finish all my stormtrooper repaints now, including doing all the dusty dirty ones now. First up is a squad of standard Stormtroopers, I've added shoulder pads to these, as I spotted a few troopers in episode 4 A New Hope, that didn't have the back packs or heavy weapons, and I thought it would help mark out the unit.

I also got the 4 heavy troopers from the Imperial Assault box set done.

Then I moved on to the one mounted on Dewback.

I also got the captain dirtied up, but didn't have to repaint the armour, as I had already used the new recipe when I first painted it.

Finally I got my two scouts with E-Web cannon repainted as well, bringing my total up to 4 with the two Frank sent me.

As you can see above I've included the original scheme below each batch, so you can see the advance I've made. Just got a few more models from Frank's gift to finish off, so until next time stay safe and have fun !

Cheers Dave

  1. Excellent repaints, Dave. I always groan internally whenever I face having to do something similar myself, so kudos to you for working on so many Stormtroopers. Awesome patience!! :-)

    1. Thank you Simon, it's been on the radar for quite a while now, in fact since I painted the captain, when I got the generous gift from Frank, it was the final push I needed to get the task done.

  3. These all look excellent Dave! Great job on them all. I like the Scouts with the E Web Cannons they pair together quite nicely.

    1. Thank you Simon, I'm a lot happier with this latest recipe for painting the armour than the previous one, and can still achieve a dirty look with it as well. The only thing I would have liked with the scouts, would have been a loader crew member, maybe something I can do when I get a box of scouts ! LOL

  4. Great looking stormtroopers! White can be very difficult as I know only too well!

    1. Thank you Iain, you're not wrong it can be one of the trickiest colours to get right, but happy now with the current recipe. Basecoat GW corax white, layer of contrast apothecary white, then apply a layer of corax white, for the mid level, and finally highlight with white scar. If dirt is required, I add this in with glazes at the end.

Nicely done, Dave! :-) The weathered look is spot on! I like the Dewback and rider!

    1. Thank you John, took a while to get the effect I was looking for, but glad I persevered, always liked the Dewback's and would really like to get a few more.

  6. And there I was all chuffed with my 9 man "batch painting" effort... This is very impressive Dave and they look pretty darn good.

That Dewback is a cute little critter, I hope you named him?

    1. Thank you Dai, it seems a lot, but it's only the dirt glazes I achieved this week, all the rest was done before I went away, so not a lot at all, but sshh ! don't tell anyone else LOL
I think I shall name him Huey ! LOL I do want to get some of the Legion version as well.

  7. Hmmm, nice work. Right, white can be a real pain to paint, but you solved the issue quite efficiently!

    1. Thank you Suber, have done many recipes over the years, but the dirty Stormtrooper armour was a stumbling block, for quite a while, happy with this solution now though.

  8. Wow, that's a lot of work getting all these storm-troopers up to the look you wanted. They do look great in their 'dirtied' outfits - a job well done (and finished ?) I'd say !

    1. Thank you Joe, worth the effort, as I'm a lot happier with the result now. They are now all currently done to a level I'm happy with, but do need some more, so will have to paint more at a later date ! LOL

  9. Great looking troopers, Dave, I like the dirty armour look and that Dewback is a great paintjob! Do those ones aiming their blasters have more chance of hitting their targets? LOL!

    1. Thank you Matt, glad to get some Tatooine looking troopers done, what to go a bit further on the skintones if I do any more Dewbacks. As for the troopers hitting more because there aiming, I seriously doubt that ! LOL

  10. Very good looking storm troopers you made there. I didn’t know that thing was called a dewback. Now they’re ready to go enslave I mean bring order to the planet. 🙃

  11. Great stuff Dave! It's always nice to have a lot of Stormtroopers completed and all together for photos - they look so much better in large groups 😀 Did Imperial Assualt make biker scouts and speeder bikes too?

    1. Thank you Ivor, I agree, but when I look on the shelf I have far more rebels, than Empire, so think I might need a few more ! LOL Imperial Assault, never did plain scouts or the bikes, so will have to use the legion ones to fill the gaps, plus there are some Empire troops that neither series have released yet.

  12. Awesome work on all of these troopers, Dave! I'd imagine you can bang these out pretty quickly but they really do look awesome in your scenic/cinematic pictures. I'll be curious to see what projects you tackle next as I feel like you can't keep painting stormtroopers forever! ;)

    1. Thank you Jeff, one of the few sets of models I don't mind batch painting. I am currently out of Stormtroopers, so will have to move onto something else for sure, I might even need a break completely from a Galaxy far far away ! LOL

  13. They look fab Dave & glad you showed the clean and dirty look 👍😊
Like has been said before the nice shining white is OK for when their on ships, but on the ground you need to go dirty.

    1. Thank you Frank, glad you enjoyed seeing the two elements.
Totally agree, having all my troopers on Tatooine in clean armour, would have looked odd, so glad I found a good way to achieve it.

    1. Thank you Azazel, I now have 46 stormtroopers to grace the board, of different types, but could do with some more, to really show their occupation of the area.

  15. Nicely done, though the Emperor needs to have a word with them about caring for their equipment, this stuff does just grow on trees you know!

    Cheers Roger.
