KARABAST

Slowly making progress on the pathfinder squad, and have completed Pao the other alien that comes in the box. If you have seen the movie Rogue One you will have heard him shout "Karabast AT-AT", this was one of the four nods to the series Star Wars Rebels, as Karabast was Zeb's phrase for trouble.

The other 3 nods were the Ghost ship on Yavin 4, Chopper on Yavin 4, and an announcement on the PA asking for General Syndulla to go to the briefing room.

These two droids have never appeared in any of the movies, or series so far, but have appeared in the comics. BT-1 destructive assassin, and 0-0-0 specialized in pain.

I've used a bit of blue glaze to make the silver look like the artwork.

That's all for this post, still have another 3 pathfinders to finish, and work continues on their vehicle, so until next time stay safe and have fun !

Cheers Dave

  1. Great job on Pao, Dave, and I definitely remember him from Rogue One. The two droids look good and also bloody terrifying lol. BT-1 looks like some insane Mechanicus invention!

    1. Thank you Matt, he is a very distinctive character. The droids are certainly very different from the norm in Star Wars ! LOL

  2. Another great-looking Rebel, Dave. I must confess to having been rather sceptical of Kieron Gillen's run as writer on "Star Wars: Darth Vader" but he quickly won me over, and these assassin droids have become incredibly popular in a very short space of time. One of Disney's few strong additions to Lucas' original universe imho.

    1. Thank you Simon, Pao was one of my favourites from the movie. The style of the droids was a bit of a shock for me, as Star Wars assassin droids tend to be a bit more covert in appearance, but they are growing on me.

  4. Another great looking rebel and two very disturbing looking droids - shame the latter never made it to the screen.

Very nice, Dave! :-) Will probably come as a surprise to everyone, but I have actually read some of the graphic novels with the droids in! And I don't think I'll tire of your Star Wars post and figures!

  7. More top Star Wars work mate, though I have to admit to not being familiar with these characters, from the pictures you've posted they look spot on. The two Droids look like the evil versions of Artoo and Treepio you'd get in one of those Star Trek alternate universe episodes 😉 (just give them both goatee beards 😁)

    Cheers Roger.

  9. Great looking alien and the droids are good, I like the blue detail in the hand, years ago I read some star wars comics but apparently the ones I read have now been cancelled, anathema as it were!

    1. Thank you Iain, the hand glow was in the artwork so thought it needed to be added. There has been a lot of comics and books that have been removed from the history, due to the movies taking the story arc in a different direction, which is such a shame.

  10. I'm late to the party on these Star Wars minis but all three look fantastic. Pao is definitely a memorable alien background character in Rogue One. As you probably could have already guessed, the background alien characters are one of my favorite parts of Star Wars (and I'm sure that's why I love Jabba's Palace so much!) so its neat to see you regularly painting them up. The droids like great as well of course :)

    1. Thank you Jeff, never a problem being late, just glad you showed up mate ! The background aliens were always my favourite part as well, just wish there were more as prime characters instead of mostly humans, in recent years the robots have had a bigger roll (K2 and L3) so we can but hope mate.

  11. Great work on these models! You've even made the rather silly characters of "Bizarro World R2-D2 and C-3PO" look good!

    1. Thank you Azazel, I must admit I'd held off on getting these, because of their look, but as they were getting harder to get hold of, thought it was time.

    2. Yeah, get what you can while you can! With those driods it's not that they're silly in overall/broad concept - just that they're paired together *just like* R2 and 3PO - down to the fact that their glamour shot is an overpainted photo of the original pair. :D
SWEU had its moments of brightness, but a lot of it was simply awful fanfic. And that was the official published stuff! :D

    3. I know what you mean, I liked chopper and A3 in Rebels a lot more, as they were a bigger difference to R2 & 3PO. Totally agree that there has been some real WHAT ! moments over the years, like the 6 foot green Rabbit ! LOL
