BEGUN THE CLONE WAR HAS

Some of you may remember a little over 11 months ago, I started work on some Clone wars era figures, and managed to finish the two characters that came in the box, a squad of B1 battle droids and the droidekas, then after Christmas I got Dooku, and Bane finished and haven't really shown anything since. It hasn't that I haven't been working on them, just slowly working away, trying to get them finished inbetween other projects. Well I can now say, I have completed all the models I have for that era that I currently own in the last two weeks.

First up is the second unit of B1 battle droids, the only difference with this unit compared to the first, is I swapped the arms around to get some pose variation from the first unit.

Next is the B1 battle droid expansion which adds in some new weapons to what was already available.

My first unit of  MK 1 clone armour was done in the colours of the 212 th Legion, as the character that came with them was Obi Wan Kenobi.

The second unit I did as a group of Shineys, if your not familiar with this tern, it's what the troopers of each legion call the new clones when they arrive from Kamino, as their armour is shiney and new. The reason I did this is so they can bolster any legion I choose to field without looking out of place.

Next is the MK 1 armour expansion pack adding in some more weapons and character, I've gone for the 212 th legion colours again on these.

Next is the Barc speeder that came in the core box, again I've gone with the 212 th legion colours

Last today was a gift my wife got me earlier this year the LAAT gunship, first seen in episode 2 The Attack of the Clones. Ever since I first saw them I wanted a model of one, but the couple that did get released were really small, now wanting to game in this era, I really wanted one, and eventually found a 3D print, I've gone with the colour scheme from the film, and makes for a great addition.

Hopefully I can add some more soon, and would really like to find some separatist gunships, to balance the forces.

That's all for this post, so until next time stay safe and have fun !

Cheers Dave

    1. Thank you Suber, it has to be my favourite piece from this era, so far, there is a couple of droid fighters and gunships I'd love to paint, but if I can't find a 3D print of them, I guess I'll have to make them at some point ! LOL

  2. Terrific posting, Dave. Absolutely terrific. I'm hoping 2022 will finally see me get into Star Wars Legion in a big way, and these sorts of postings definitely motivate me in the right direction. Awesome pressie from the wife too!!! :-)

    1. Thank you Simon, really needed to catch up on this project, what with Christmas not too far away, didn't want to fall behind on all I already had ! LOL It was certainly a great present as she got me the deluxe version, with all the extra gun pods.

  4. Very nicely done, I forgot how many cool vehicles there have been in the Start Wars saga.

Will you be doing a "Bad Batch"?

    Cheers Roger.

    1. Thank you Roger, you're not wrong, I don't think I have enough shelf space for them all, might need more shelves ! LOL
I have found a 3D printed set, so they are definitely on my want list !

  5. That's quite some force you've being working on 'in=between' projects and quite a project in itself. Iid manage to see abit of the clone wars film and these clones are spot on fromwhat I remember. The 22th Legion is however not in my SW knowledge pool, but they do look good andno doubt are as near to the film version as anyone can get (knowing your proclifity for sych things).
To my eye though the start of this blog, fo me, is the gunship, superb model and I wouldn't have thought it was a 3D print, it's such a good modeland done great justice by your brushwork.

    1. Thank you Joe, I did use the movie as reference, and the cartoon series, and even some stills from a computer game, just to get in some variation.
The d print was pretty good , but the parts came in multiple standards of print, some were better than others. So once I'd put the structure together, and filled any gaps, I coated the whole model in high build primer, then wet and dried the panels as smooth as I could get them, before adding the paint, plus I went for a dirty war torn look which helped cover some of the problem spots.

These are great, Dave! :-) I love the Clone Wars era troops and enjoyed all of the animated series more than the "proper" films!

    1. Thank you John, used the cartoons a lot for reference, and must admit I am a fan of the cartoons, although visions didn't feel right, but not a huge anime fan.

  7. I have to admit to not really liking the Clone Troopers' armour (like 40k where I'm a Beakie fan, I prefer the original Stormtroopers) but these look great and I really like the yellow trim. The vehicles also look amazing. Great painting all round, sir!

    1. Thank you Matt, understand what you mean, if the films had come out in numerical order, it probably would have been different as you watched the progression in the armour. Always find doing them war torn difficult, as it seems wrong to smudge a model, after you just spent ages getting the paint right ! LOL

  8. Splendid looking Star wars figures, the gunship is great but I really like the speeder!

    1. Thank you Iain, the speeder was actually the hardest to do, as I couldn't find a single reference picture for the 212 th legion, so based it off what I could find in the movies, and then did my own pattern in keeping with what I found.

  9. Really nice work, Dave! Its always great to see you painting Star Wars stuff and everything looks really nice. I have to admit that even with growing up with the prequels, outside of a few things like the podracers (which I think look awesome!) and Darth Maul, most of that era of Star Wars is not my favorite and I try to leave it in the past. With that said, seeing the gunship and battle droids does spark a little bit of nostalgia which is a tribute to your painting! :)

    1. Thank you Jeff, I know not everyone likes the prequels, I'm still fond of them, and think they added a different element to the back story, even though it caused some problems with the time line ! LOL If they've given you a sense of nostalgia then I've definitely hit the brief mate.
