I've been continuing on with Jabba's Palace, and making some good headway, all the basic construction has been done, and a good 80 % of the walls are now painted to the basic standard. The four alcoves still have a lot of work to do before painting, as every arch at the front requires detail within the arch.
As you can see from the above pictures how all the bits fit together and how much is currently painted to the basic standard.
I have started on the detailing as well, as you can see in the picture of the dais above and can see it retracted and extended, I am still trying to find an effective way of making the frog bowl, and hoping to find a solution to that soon, with the ability to place the hookah on top as well.
Got the two trophy heads done and fitted to the wall either side of the alcove for Han, need to find a solution for the base plate in this area but got a couple of ideas.
The above shots show how you can get access to the end section, and the view from the two removable panels.
Also started painting the markings on the arches, this was done with a wash, to give the faded and patchy look you see in the movie.
The last three shots show the stair wells was pleased with how these turned out.
That's all for this post, hopefully next time I will be close to completion of this piece, so until next time stay safe and have fun.
Cheers Dave
Another corking update, Dave, and some seriously awesome modelling work on display. I especially love the tauntaun head, and those shots of the stairs are terrific.
ReplyDeleteThank you Simon, was pleased with the two heads, and thought it was better than buying a tauntaun just to use the head on the wall. The stairs were a bit of whimsy as you cant put figures on them but do add to the character from the main section.
DeleteThat's looking great mate, all the details are really starting to shine through now!
ReplyDeleteStrange you should mention the functionality of the stairs, as I'm currently (slowly) gluing together some more MDF pieces from TTC for Dead Zone and some of these have stars running up the sides, but the footplates and gaps are far to big from an ascetic point of view but are obviously designed so figure bases can stand on them, and I cant decide if I like that or not 🤔.
Cheers Roger.
Thank you Roger, lot more to come yet, but at least it's a step in the right direction.
DeleteThe two stairwells shown are purely aesthetic, in this build, the main stairs into the chamber and the two either side of the dais have more function as they have a wide step part way up where models can be placed. As Joe said last time a balance between the two works well, my rule of thumb is normally every 2 cm up put in a large step, but it's all down to personal preference mate
Great progress and the shots through the arch are very atmospheric!
ReplyDeleteBest Iain
Thank you Iain, Hoping when I put some models in it will increase the atmosphere
DeleteA lot of excelent progress, making the whole thingcome together. Thew varied textures and paintwork really help getting an overall impression of the various corridors and stairwells.
ReplyDeleteLoving the various details you've managed to add too.
Thank you Joe, on the shadowy corridors I actually did the base layer a darker shade, to force the shadow look, the textures certainly help unify the whole piece.
DeleteLot's more to details to come Joe, as every time I watch the scene I seem to find something new ! LOL
Looking good, Dave, the painting and weathering are really bringing this build to life. The trophy heads on the wall are a great touch.
ReplyDeleteThank you Matt, there is still a lot of staining to do to the walls, but going to do that in one hit once the last section is finished and to the same stage as the rest. Reference for the Tauntaun was easy to find, the other head had to really on the action figure playset
DeleteMate, always a jaw dropping experience looking at your posts! Just speechless at what you've done, and all scratch built on top of it. A Boba Fett and Fennec Shand could be a bit of fun to swap out with Jabba in the future 😀
ReplyDeleteThank you Ivor, glad your enjoying the development of this project mate. Funny you should say that, as I was looking at 3D prints of those two last week, and the updated throne as well. Maybe as a future project when i'm bored of using Jabba ! LOL
DeleteI can’t believe this can be so awesome!
ReplyDeleteThank you Suber, hopefully got a few more pieces that should impress yet
DeleteIts a funny thing to say but the walls look just about perfect! The damaged and rough texture is perfect for Jabba's Palace. I love the mounted creature heads too. Those were pretty common in Star Wars Galaxies as in-game housing decor so that seeing them really takes me back to one of my all-time favorite video games. This project is coming along so well and fairly quickly too. I can't wait to see more updates!
ReplyDeleteThank you Jeff, when I first saw the film in the cinema, I didn't notice them, and it was only years later when I started looking past the main focus I began to notice such details. Glad it gave you a trip down memory lane to a game you loved. As long as I don't stall hopefully I can finish it soon.
