TWO FLEETS TO THE WIND

Continuing on with finishing my fleets I've got two major parts done for two of my fleets and will all count towards my entry for Ann's Neglected Models Challenge. First up is my Night Hawks.

This first model is the Space Marine Battlebarge, my fleet only has one, as in the background two were lost to the warp on they're maiden voyage ( a full strength fleet has 3 Barges). The only addition I added to this model was the hawk at the back, which came from one of the Imperial vessels.

Next is the four Strike Cruisers ( normally 6 in a fleet, but two lost to the warp) each model had a hawk added coming from multiple sources including one scratchbuilt.

The above are the three classes of escort ship that Forgeworld produced to use instead of the Imperial escorts, fleets don't have set numbers of these, but I only got round to picking up one set of each, so these will have to do.

Next I have the Desolator class Battleship for my Emperors Children fleet, this is a completely standard model, which I've done in my normal pink and black colour scheme.

Above are the 5 different heavy cruisers that I made out of the plastic kits, a couple have small conversions to make them look more like the artwork in the rulebook.

I have started work on some Fighters and bombers for both fleets, I'm using the Forgeworld Thunderhawk Gunships, of which I have about 20 of, but may make some smaller fighters based off of one of the other flyers they can use.

The Chaos fighter and bomber are based off the 40K versions Forgeworld released, got the basics done but need to add some more detail.

I was never a fan of the Chaos escort ships they released so I'm going to build some based off the Harbinger that Forgeworld released for Aeronauticus as I like the shape a lot more and fits with the fighters and bombers.

That's all for this post, so until next time stay safe and have fun !

Cheers Dave

  1. Looking at your lovely paint-jobs on some great spaceships really makes me wish GW would release Battlefleet. I missed out on the game the first time round as it wasn't really my thing, but now I'd definitely like to get stuck in - especially with all the changes to the current WH40K universe etc.

    1. Thank you Simon, you never know with how Forgeworld are releasing what used to be specialist games, we may well see another release of Gothic, it just may be in a different scale to the last release, so we can but hope.

  2. Really nice additions to your fleets Dave. Loving your home made Chaos craft too. Looking forward to seeing what you come up with for the Kroot!

  3. Love those Emperor's Children ships, and it's nice to see someone supporting the III Legion :-) The others are great too, and your Chaos craft looks interesting — I look forward to seeing them finished and painted!

    1. Thank you Matt, as I have them in 40K it would add to the campaign ability, with supply runs coming in, reinforcements and such, just to add a bit more depth to the gaming

    1. Thank you Ivor, I went with how I normally paint noise marines, so large panels black, small details pink, as I felt the other way round might be too much ! LOL

  8. These look great, Dave. I never played BG back in the day, and I kind of wish I had. I just picked up A Billion Suns from Osprey, so maybe some space fleet gaming is in my future. It's from the same guy who wrote Gaslands; if it's half as good I'll be happy!

    1. Thank you Keith, I enjoyed playing it when it first came out, but now want to adapt the rules so fighters and bombers play a bigger part. Did see some of the ships for billion Suns, very cool, I picked Firestorm Amada a while back, nice ships wasn't a fan of the rule system, but more ships I can use for something else

    2. I picked up a Firestorm Armada starter set, and even got to play a demo of the game back at Gen Con in 2012. It was fun, but not my bag as far as games go (buckets and buckets of dice); but the ships really are cool. Sadly, with Spartan's demise, the ships are quite pricey on the secondary market nowadays.

    3. Seems to be the way at the moment with a lot of the starship games, that the models are only available on the second hand market, and too costly, glad I've got the bits I want already ! LOL

  9. You did a great job picking out all of the tiny details on these ships and it is awesome to see some done up as Emperor's Children. They were my flavor of Chaos when I played 40k back in the day :)

    1. Thank you Jeff, I can't believe how long it's taken me to get round to painting them, I think I was just overthinking it as the scale is so small. It took a long time to warm up to painting a whole army in pink and black, but happy I did

  10. I'm not too familiar with Battlefleet Gothic ships. Are the white ones with the blue bows imperial ships? They appear so but one never knows. :)

    1. Yes Ann, Specialist games latter released a version for Eldar, that were a lot sleeker. Although you could use them for Chaos with the right paint job I would say
