SPACE ANOTHER FRONTIER

recently on one of my posts, Dai mentioned about running a campaign with the armies I had for 40K, and I mentioned that wasn't a bad idea as I had gothic fleets for all but one as well.

So I went looking for my fleets and found I'd only really done test pieces on each, so hadn't got very far at all, and decided it was about time to remedy this, and decided to do my transport ships first, I wasn't happy with the test colour so have painted all of these this week.

These are basic transport ships, they have very little armament but substantial engines to make them quick.

The second batch look to be a type of silo carrier, again little in the way of weapons for defence but a good bank of engines.

This last bunch were made by Forgeworld as tankers, the standard configuration are the two in the middle, but I thought it would be cool to have a quick single tank and also a super tanker as well. Out of all the transport vessels these are my favourite, and look to be equipped with missile launchers in the prow, or that's at least what I'm going to play them as.

These will all count towards Ann's neglected model challenge this month, as I've had these models for far too many years ! LOL

I haven't forgotten about the challenge roundup, that should be my next post, as I wanted to make sure I had all the entries, so until next time stay safe and have fun !

Cheers Dave

  1. Holy heck, these are some hard minis to come by in this day and age. Almost forgot that Forgeworld made them in the first place. Nice civilian craft though for fun missions.
Were there ever illustrations done for Kroot craft? Only one I can remember seeing was from the Blackstone Fortress game. *Google shows them as having some sort of "Warsphere" and escorts too. Am sure the pics I found are for 3rd party models though.*

    1. Yes prices in the second hand market are crazy, luckily I got mine while they were in production, and should make for some fun scenarios as well.
Only knew about the warsphere but will have a look for the others for ideas, and thanks for the information, makes the hunt a lot easier

  2. Nice job on those ships, Dave! Bags of detail on them even though they're so small. I vaguely remember Battlefleet Gothic as one of my friends had it (I was out of the painting/gaming hobby by then). I see a lot of ships on Ebay, sometimes going for ridiculous prices.

    1. Thank you Matt, they were and are great models, had a lot to do with Gothic, as I was a store manager when it was released, and later had a lot of involvement with specialist games when they took it over, so have a lot of attachment to it, going to change the rules as I want fighters and bombers to have a bigger role, as they were only ordinance, but will see how that develops.
Crazy the prices on the second hand market, I sold some spares I had a few years back, and made over 10 times what I originally paid for them !

    1. Thank you Phil, if the second hand market was a bit cheaper I'd probably pick up some more

  4. Nicely done Dave, never had any of the Battlefleet Gothic stuff, have some of the earlier ships GW did (am I right thinking they bought the moulds for those earlier ships from another company?), we used to play Full Thrust with then.

    Cheers Roger.

    1. Thank you Roger, remember the earlier ships, I think they were their sculpts, and later MB games had them done in plastic under licence, but I could be wrong on that.

    1. Thank you Joe, I thought the transports would make a great opening game for the start of a campaign. I know what you mean about unfinished models, As I'm busy working through 3 fleets, that I hadn't got very far through ! LOL
