JEDI TRIAL !

Jetta woke to find herself in the middle of an arena, there were four large metal doors that were closed, and four smaller man size doors also closed, she couldn't see anyone above the walls watching her.
As she rose to her feet three of the large metal doors started to open revealing a Reek, an Acklay, and a Nexu. She reached for her lightsabre and was surprised to find it in it's normal position, igniting it she stood ready for the coming onslaught.

Thinking on her feet she rushed the Nexu, and engaged the beast, leaving the other two beasts a distance away for the moment.
with a flurry of blows each one finding it's mark bar one, the beast was not as lucky with it's blows as only one hit true, the rest being parried or blocked with the force.
Nexu rolled two red dice scoring a hit and a blank with it's base hits of 3 gave a total of 4 hits and one block.
Jetta chose to roll one red dice and one green dice scoring her 3 hits and 1 block, with her base hits of 2 and 2 blocks gave her a total of 5 hits and 3 blocks.

The Nexu, fought back as any predatory animal would when wounded, and landed twice as many blows as before but wasn't enough, as Jetta managed to land enough fatal hits to kill the beast.
Nexu scoted 2 hits giving a total of 5 hits and 1 block
Jetta scored 2 hits and 1 block giving a total of 4 hits and 3 blocks

The two other beasts closed across the arena to attack Jetta. Having dispatched the Nexu she turned attention on the Reek and charged into combat, this beast wasn't going to be as easy to defeat as it tried to gorge her with it's horns and stomp her with it's feet, but her skills meant that she landed more blows than she took.
Reek scored 4 hits and with it's base score of 2 hits and no blocks had a total of 6 hits and 0 blocks
Jetta rolled 3 hits, so had a total of 5 hits and 2 blocks

The reek fought back with howls of pain, but wasn't strong enough to prevail with the flurry of attacks that she returned and fell to her swift blade.
Reek scored 3 hits giving a total of 5 hits and no blocks
Jetta scored 4 hits giving her a total of 6 hits and 2 blocks

The Acklay wanting to get in on the action, strode into combat finish to finish her off, Jetta spun round at the sound of it's charging bellow, she was getting weak now, and would need to defend herself as she wouldn't last much longer.
The Acklay rolled 2 hits and a skull, meaning only it's base score of 2 hits and 1 block would count.
Jetta rolled 1 hit and 1 block giving her a total of 3 hits and 3 blocks.

She didn't know how much longer she could keep this up, as her wounds were really taking a toll on her, if she was going to survive, she would need to push with all her remaining strength and defeat this last creature.with one last push she threw everything she had at the creature, but in her state of weakness the Acklay held off and pierced her to the floor with a killing blow.
Acklay scored 2 hits and no blocks giving a total of 4 hits and 1 block
Jetta scored 4 hits giving a total of 6 hits and 2 blocks

Darth Vader and the Emperor walked out of the shadows, at the top of the arena, "As I told you my master she was not as strong as she thought !" "Indeed my apprentice, but it is another Jedi eradicated !"
This game was played using the Death Match rules, using the human stats for Jetta, equipped with a lightsabre (laser sword) force push (laser shield) and jedi skills (light armour).
The Reek was using Horned Hominid rules

The Nexu used the Saretooth Razorback rules

And the Acklay used the Female arachnid rules

These 3 models were my Father's day gift and had been safely stuck in a box until last week, but rather than just paint them and show them off I thought I'd put them in a game.
That's all for this post so until next time have fun !
Cheers Dave

  4. Hi Dave as you know I'm a gamer rather than a painter so I enjoyed this post, I don't think I grasped the rules but you described the combat excellently.
I was rooting for Jetta obviously.

    1. Thank you John, I’m a bit of both, but I normally like to do one or the other either showing the painting or sculpting, or in private gaming. I have a lot of respect for all of you that post up lots of battle reports as I know how much work goes into them, and how they can disrupt the flow of the game.
If you’d like to know more about the rules drop me an email mate

    2. Thanks for the offer on the rules Dave, I'll pass this time thanks although I'm interested in how you handle 2 or more opponents in a combat. I'm working on a game report at the moment and will be posing that as a question, so hopefully if you get to read it you might give me your thoughts.
      Cheers

    3. No problem John, multiple combatants is an interesting one, with these rules it’s worked out in turn , so beast 1 would resolve its combat with the Jedi, then beast 2 would resolve its combat and so on. For a more real time feel it would be better to resolve all combats at the same time. For instance if you had 1 defender being assailed by 3 attackers you could allocate the hits to the attackers from the defender depending on the number of attacks it had ( say it has 4 attacks, roll 2 dice on attacker 1 and 1 dice at the other 2 independently) while you can group all the attackers dice together if they have the same profile, if they have different profiles then roll different coloured dice for each. Hope this helps

    4. I.m on the laptop and your pictures are much better than the small screen of the tablet, the painting looks really good, so size does matter;)

The melee rules I use are based on goal scoring so a figure will have a fight value of say 5 D6's, and so roll 5 dice having to pass or roll 1,2,or 3 to score, 4,5 or 6 is a fail. You compare that with their opponents score and the highest number of passed dice wins, the damage is proportional to the difference in the number of passed dice, so for example a) rolls 1,3,3 5,& 6 so pass 3 dice. If their opponent b) is not as good a fighter they may only get to roll 4 dice and score 1, 4, 5 & 5 so pass 1 dice. 3 v 1 difference 2 b looses by 2 which would knock them down.
Multiple combats a) would have to split his 5 dice against the two opponents so maybe 3 to one and 2 to the other, if his opponents are both at 4 each he has very little chance of winning both fights very similar to your second example. To try and even up multiple combats I've been playing around with the combat being between 2 people with the third adding a proportion of their dice pool to help their comrade, this gives the 1 v 2 combat more of a chance of surviving and reflects the fact that 2 v 1 the 2 will get in each others way a bit and not be as fully effective.
It gets more complicated if there are 3 v 1 because in my opinion 3 will get in each others way even more!

With your 1st example where they fight 1 combat v 1 opponent and then a 2nd one against the other there is no advantage for the 2 fighting 1.
      Cheers

    5. ROFL John, the size comment made my morning !
In the first example, it's to represent that the gladiators are trained in combat, where as the beasts are working on natural instincts, it works for that particular set up of characters, but has it's limitations.
Sounds like you have a system that works for you John, so wouldn't mess with it, the current rules I'm working on could have multiple combatants involved, so trying to work out the best way to get that to work without falling into the trap of hero's being overly powerful, you know the Arnie, or Rambo principal, where 1 person can take on an army and walk out with a couple of scratches LOL
