LUG THIS

Today I have a Star Wars monster size creature to show for Monster May(hem) a Jawa riding a Lugga Beast, now if you don't know this creature you can be forgiven as they appeared in Episode 7 of the Star Wars movie, on the planet Jakku, now I have zero interest of adding most things from the Sequels, but this beast will look right at home walking through the streets of Mos Eisley, or Mos Espa.

Tried to match the reference as much as possible, with stippling, washes, and wiping washes, the model is a 3D resin print. I've also painted up a R1 droid, that I have wanted for a long time which will add to my lineup of droids and is also a 3D resin print.

As you can see in the reference picture I still need the short domed droid, as I haven't made one of them yet ! LOL

I have some news to share today as well, I had the results of my latest scan back this week, and the fluid in my lung has continued to recede without being drained, and also the thickening has also reduced in size, which is the best news I could have got, now if I can fix my hands which are getting worse I'll be doing great ! LOL

That's all for today, so until next time, stay safe, and have fun !

Cheers Dave

  1. First off great news about you 👍next love both of these figures, especially the R1 droid (even though he looks pretty useless for most things). Where are you getting all the great star wars, 3D prints from?
    Cheers Roger.

    1. Thank you Roger, feeling better, yes the R1 always looked very static, I've been purchasing them mostly from Ebay, but some are from Etsy, just putting in Star Wars Legion into the search bar.

  2. Excellent news, the Force is with you.

And the droid and beastie both look great. I can see that I'm going to have to hunt some of these 3D print things down.

  4. As much as I dislike the Sequels, a lot of their practical effects were pretty good, and that monster design is a very good one, so you chose well haha. And some really good news too!

    1. Thank you SD, have to agree on the sequels, but a cool beast, is still a cool beast ! LOL Was very happily surprised this week.

  5. Firstly, I'm everso happy to read the news on your health. Hands need a bit of fixing still.... ok. but lungs I think are more important!

Beast is a cool design and will be a nice addition to your streets of Tattoine setup, but yeah, sequels don't exist in my StarWars, not at all. You painted it up a treat though Dave!

The R1 droid tho is frikken cool! Such a short time onscreen but it stood out to my decrepit mind for decades - easily identifiable.

    1. Thank you Dai, my wife was so surprised, she didn't know how to react ! LOL
There was a 7,8 and 9 ? ROFL at least the 3D sculptor put a familiar and useful creature on it's back ! LOL
Wanted one for a long time, as I'd already done most of the droids from outside the Lars farm, apart from the one I realised I missed ! LOL glad I could match the reference.

  6. This might surprise you but I don't remember the Lugga Beast at all. It is a really cool looking droid (at least I assume that's what it is) even if it possibly bears some resemblance to a Khorne "beast" that is also ridden! It is great to see that droid under the care of Jawas too. The health news is perhaps the best of all though! I hope your hands are able to get better next!

    1. Thank you Jeff, I believe it was when a scrapper caught BB8 and Rey rescued it, it's actually an organic creature, with lots of armour all over it, so the head piece is quite strange, as how do you feed or water the creature ! LOL The R1 was great to add to the collection. I'm hoping too on my hands as it's getting harder to hold anything ! LOL

  8. It's the first time ever I see lugga beast - so cool thing!!! O_o
I am totally not into Star Wars, but that thing begs for being hired as Khorne's Juggernaut!
    Well done!

    1. Thank you Demi-Morgana, it would fit well as a Khorne one, being bio-mechanical as they are ! LOL Don't worry I've got more 40K monsters coming for the rest of the month ! LOL

  10. Awesome pair, here Dave! Love the weathering on the big beast! I've printed a couple of R1 droids myself but still need to finish cleaning them up. :)

    1. Thank you Azazael, wanted to match the reference as close as I could on the weathering, most of it was achieved with sponge dabbing, as I could control the placing and amount to a degree compared to the rust effect wash.

    1. Thank you John, hopefully the health will continue in the same direction. It was different being an organic creature, with so much rusty plating ! LOL
