CLIMBING THE WALLS !

I have another Star Wars beastie today for Monster May(hem) a Varactyl as seen in " Revenge of the Sith" movie, in the film it was ridden by Obi Wan Kenobi, but this one is being ridden by a Utai, which were also seen on Utapau, I thought they would look cool roaming the streets like the Lugga beast, I showed last time. This model is a 3D print I got from the usual trader I purchase from on Ebay.

Once I painted the greens and blues on the creature, I gave them a coat of gem paints to give them the metallic look, rather than normally using silver as the base color, I wanted deeper colors.

I've also painted up a unit of Juggernaut crew for my Imperials, they are 3D resin prints, that I got from a new trader I found on Ebay, these appeared in the series " The Mandalorian" but this is not the only type of Juggernaut, there is the one that appeared in the series "The Bad Batch" and also in the film " Rogue One", so at some point I would like to get one of these vehicles, or maybe two, to also add to my Empire forces.

If I had named a post after these it would have been where's my spanner, as the open case on top is empty, with a spanner symbol inside the lid ! LOL

That's all for today, so until next time, stay safe, and have fun !

Cheers Dave

  2. Stellar work as usual.
Is there a model Juggernaut available anywhere, I could do with some suitable vehicles, though perhaps I should start a bit smaller!

    1. Thank you misterc, I've seen the one from the Bad Batch, but I'll probably have to scratch build the one from the Mandalorian ! LOL There are a lot of different Empire vehicles out there, so depending what you are looking for, look on Ebay, and Etsy

  3. Lovely metallic scales on the lizard mate. And for a change I know what you are on about with the juggernaut crew, as I watched both the Mandolarian and the Bad batch!!

    1. Thank you Roger, did think about doing it with silver paint and washes before the gem paint, but decided to try it with paints to get a deeper color, luckily it worked ! LOL Glad I didn't keep you in the dark on the crew, as I have some obscure models coming up ! LOL

  4. Stunning stuff, Dave. Those colours on your Monster Mayhem entry are awesome and the rider makes a good fit on the beast too. I do like those Juggernaut crew sculpts too. Very nice indeed. This is just the sort of post which is making me paint up some Star Wars Legion of my own, LOL. So please keep them coming :-)

  6. So much coolness in this post! That Varactyl is so cool and a perfect addition to your collection. The calls Obi-wan's mount made in the flick are now ringing about my head as I type this. (Thanks.)

The Juggernaut crew are some perfect sculpts and you painted them up just right. Such a niche subject that only SW nerds like me would recognise immediately I'm sure. LOL

    1. Thank you Dai, sorry about the chirps, but they are such cool lizards ! LOL I'd been looking at what bits I was going to need to be able to make the crew, and then luckily I found a set of 3D sculpts that were perfect, so only had to get the painting right ! LOL

  9. The Varactyl might be the most "iconic" thing in George Lucas's last Star Wars movie besides Grievous with a cold, of course. Your version turned out great and I really like the addition of the rider too!

  11. A lot in this one. I do like the long-lizard, though I also feel like they coul;d have given you a larger base for it! The gem paint finish looks great, though I've found that my own Gem paints "went bad" over time, and it seems GW no longer sell them?
The Juggernaut crew look great. I almost bought a set myself this week from eBay but they goy nudged out by a bunch of other things (mostly carrying guns). I do plan to print a Juggernaut Tank myself at some point in the near-mid future - https://fab365.net/items/1347 but there's a Y-Wing there I might do first. If I actually get around to making that Juggernaut, I'll likely have to pick up that crew to go alongside!

    1. Thank you Azazael, the base is a bit small, but I can cope with that, as I almost left it off completely, it was a little too unbalanced without ! LOL Doesn't surprise me that GW stopped the paints, like they often do, bring out something new, then drop it, like their premixed glazes (by the way GW contrast paint and glaze medium do not work the same ! ! !).5 minutes of mixing with a stirrer got mine bake to life, but then I never used them as GW intended ! LOL
They are a great set of models, I'm on a opposite kick at the moment models without guns, I want more citizens to populate the streets with. I have a similar problem most months, which to go for first ! LOL Spoiler alert, I ordered a juggernaught for Season of scenery ! LOL and don't forget the Y-wing will count for it to.
