Work is slowly progressing on the Monk, I've got the brain painted and the bulk of the body sculpted (not my best work but it will do) so with less than two weeks to the deadline, I really need to get a move on. In the mean time, I've finished another unit of Night Hawks, these are devastators from the fifth company, one of the things I wanted to have was a tank busting squad, just in case of facing vehicle heavy armies ( less likely to happen as I mostly game solo at home, but when I made them it was a different story ! LOL)
These are metal miniatures, and are a mix, of Rogue Trader models and second edition marines to keep adding to the variation of the army, I've also added more modern backpacks to keep the idea of using what they can salvage. I've noticed GW have restocked devastator squads, and noticed they have the extra armor on the leg greaves like the second edition ones, so will have to add them to this years wish list. Thank you Mr. Martin, several times in the past, I thought about getting rid of the older models, so glad I didn't and held onto them now, as they are adding a lot of character to the units.

DeleteGreat to see these old-school models painted up so nicely, Dave. A couple of those boys are in my own Legion of the Damned squad (the beakies), and you so rarely see them painted anywhere - your ones here really brought a smile to my face.

LOL I do have a small unit of Legion of the Damned, with the limited edition Centurius in it, but can't decide if I want to repaint, or just rebase, perhaps I should show them and see what everyone else thinks. I do look forward to seeing more of all your marines, when you get round to them.
DeleteMe too, Dave! I've been slogging through zombies lately - want to get this 1st ed Zombicide project finished very badly. Even though painting marines would be more fun, the zombies are what will get use these days as I have not played 40k in any form for years now (and the current state of the overly-complex, overly-competitive rules... ewww!), As well as that taking my time, I've been working on so very much scenery - just chipping away at a whole bunch of things. With only a week (and one weekend) left before July, I may well end up not getting any of them finished until the Challenge commences...
DeleteAfter your mention of Legion of the Damned, I've dug them out and will include them in my next post, even found an extra model, that I'm trying to match to the old scheme ! LOL I know what you mean about the current state of 40K so have a set of rules I'm working on that should play the way I want it too, and will also be able to use it for other games as well. Can fully understand concentrating on what you are actually using at the moment. Sounds like there is a lot of cool scenery to look forward to as well.

DeleteYeah, the Season of Scenery is going to be a busy time, especially if vehicles still count! (walkers too? ;) ) I should try One Page Rules sometime, as I understand it's pretty fun without all of the BS that 40k has adopted. Then again, getting a gaming group is the tricky part these days! Or even finding the time to wargame....
I've only got six in total, and only three of those were released as LotD models, the other three were standard marines that I converted.
DeleteOf course vehicles still count, and a walker is still a vehicle so yes that counts too. The rules I'm working on should have enough to keep the game quick, enough detail to make it interesting, and also realism is something I'm aiming for. Totally agree on finding time and people ! LOL
I picked up the "official" LotD models from 2nd and then 3rd edition, with a fair few extras. Also Centurious. Of course, my first models were simply Rogue Trader Marines painted appropiately, and those are still the majority of my little group. I should paint a few more so I have an excuse to drag out the others and rephotograph them... if only I knew where they are right now!
DeleteYou're definitely bringing out the big guns now, Dave! These look great and the more of these marines I see, the more I like the color scheme you're using. It subtly stands out, I reckon, which is a good thing in Warhammer in my book!

LOL When I came up with the color scheme I wanted it to relate to the chapter name, so night blue was an obvious choice, the face plate in a beak style color just helped in my opinion, and this was before GW started doing it on their Raven Guard, as they were originally all black, as were Dark Angels and Salamanders.
