Back when I started my Night Hawk army, I spent a long time thinking about what there Dreadnoughts would look like. As The army was mostly flight based, I thought a flying dreadnought would fit, unfortunately my opponents weren't too happy with a very quick dreadnought that had two heavy weapons with a pair of rending claws. To be honest I can see there point, but what to do with the first one I built, with my recent painting of this project I came up with a new idea, what if I made it into a drone, now this would mean weaker armour than a dreadnought, and also no rending attack as they would be landing claws only, also I thought that having a controller on the board for it would give two ways of taking it out, as if the controller was killed the drone would no longer have any function.
This is a repaint of my original one to bring the colour scheme more up to date, the V is because I have another four of the old advanced space crusade chaos dreadnought to transform into more drones. I have a question which I'd like your opinion on, should the controllers be Servitors, Marines, or tech Marines ? I can see arguments for each so would value your opinion. That's all for today, so until next time stay safe, and have fun !
Cheers Dave
Ooh getting very strong Terminator vibes from this one, loved those things. Also love getting the models to match the lore, always find it funny when legions who are known for speed ala White Scars would have these hulking, heavy models and nothing specialized for them to fill that role.
ReplyDeleteGreat use of the Space Crusade Dreadnought, it fits in with your chapter perfectly.
ReplyDeleteI'm well out of touch with 40K, but I always liked the idea of Servitors, kind of like the Lay Bretheren in a monastery.
A drone is a cool idea and I really like how you incorporated an eagle into the design too. It looks great painted up in this color scheme as well. I'm not knowledgeable on GW's lore at all so I can't offer any advice there. I would tend to recommend doing whatever you like best and think looks the coolest but that's just me!
ReplyDeleteI know nothing of 40k as I haven’t seriously looked at the lore or gameplay in 10 years. Though I did recently read the first 4 of the Horas Heresy books before getting bored.
ReplyDeleteSo nice drone. I’d say for a controller can be whomever you want. 😀
Not to interject, but I'm surprised to hear you were reading Warhammer 40k fiction, Stew! Inquiring minds would like to know what prompted this shocking development :D
DeleteVery cool mate! Though obviously different I immediately got a "Hawk's ship" vibe from "Buck Roger in the 25th century" which is good coz I loved that ship!
ReplyDeleteCheers Roger.
Great conversion work, Dave. They look nicely thematic to your Chapter. I love the look you've given the drone's face. It really looks like its glaring at its target. LOL!!
ReplyDeleteWhat a novel idea for drones - I still have my Space Crusade dreadnought that is still waiting to be painted. Excited to see the other four
ReplyDeleteI think a drone is only a tad less stupid than a territory, so not a good idea that dullard meatbag being in control. Regular marines are too busy Marine’ing. So tech marines make most sense to me, plus they would be on hand for field repairs.
Servitor not Territory - stupid autocorrect
DeleteWhat a cool idea for a model and well executed too! I don't know much about Space Marine lore, but drones being controlled by servitors in 40k would make sense to me.
ReplyDeleteThis is pure genius! I love the concept and the whole way you executed the UAS. Pretty inspiring!
ReplyDeleteThis is brilliant, Dave! :-) Just love that hawk's head and those beady eyes!
