One of the gifts I got for Christmas was the new Rebel Sleeper Cell box, this is one of the new sets by Atomic Mass Games, and there are several noticeable differences to previous rebel box sets, first there is more models in the set (that's a bonus), the next is the face detail is shallower, so needs more work to make look right ( not great, but manageable), and the last difference was there was no female sculpts in the set (disappointing, as I liked the equal opportunities element). The set contains 5 humans, two aliens and an astromech. First up the humans.
Went with the same colour pallet I've used on all my rebels. Next is the aliens.
As you can see you get a Sullustan ( same species as Nien Nunb) and a Rodian, I've gone with blue skin, as I've already got a lot of green, and yellow/orange ones.
Above is the Astromech, now this comes with several options, but as I've painted a lot based on the movie ones already, I went with the option that isn't movie based, and decided to call it A2V. The set also has a Loth Cat, which is supposed to be on the base of one of the rebels, but I put it on a separate base and will add it to the bases I've got from Imperial Assault. That's all for today, so until next time stay safe, and have fun !
Cheers Dave
Lush looking minis buddy
ReplyDeleteThank you Andy, tried to make the gradients on the colours on these closer, so hope that came off.
DeleteNice work on all of these, Dave! I'm glad that they included some aliens, including two that I really like in the box. You did a great job painting them as well. I wouldn't have complained if they substituted a human or two out for more aliens though. The Rebellion was friendly to everyone whereas the Empire was not or at least that is how the lore used to be. Maybe that's changed since Disney took over as it certainly had a certain xenophobic flare to it!
ReplyDeleteThank you Jeff, some sets have more aliens than others the rebel expansion set having more aliens than humans. The Empire is still xenophobic, and don't allow many in their ranks (Thrawn being a notable exception) but will use them in other roles when needed. It used to be rare for females to be included as well, but that has changed, although it's hard to tell a male stormtrooper from a female one as they wear the same armour.
DeleteExcellent work, and the minis look great. Good to see more aliens too, but my favourite is the Loth Cat.
ReplyDeleteThank you misterc, to be honest I'd be happy with a whole set of aliens as it would be something different to paint ! LOL The Loth Cat is cool, and seemed a waste just having him on a Rebels base.
DeleteExcellent looking bunch of rebels!
ReplyDeleteBest Iain
Thank you Iain, other than the box of Rebel commandos I need I thought I was done on the rebel front until they released these ! LOL
DeleteI like these, Dave! :-) You get a good selection - and a cat! You could call the droid A2Z and claim he worked for a large Imperial logistics company before he was liberated!
ReplyDeleteThank you John, there is a good selection, the only real disappointment is the lack of female models, the rest I could easily cope with. Like the idea for the astromech, I think I'll have to use that.
DeleteLovely work, I really like how you made them look cohesive with the palette, cool job!
ReplyDeleteThank you Suber, it's the same batch of colours I've used on all my rebels, and I took them from the Pathfinders which is the first unit I did ! LOL
DeleteNice looking Rebels Dave. I like that there are no doubles amongst the sculpts.
ReplyDeleteThe winner in this bunch tho if the Loth Cat! I flipping love those things and have done ever since I first watched Rebels. I'm going to look up this box to see if it's affordable just to paint that cute thing up!
Thank you Dai, that is a big positive throughout the range, even when it comes to things like Stormtroopers.
DeleteI remember seeing on Etsy a set of 3D printed Loth Cats, where you get 6 of them, and a darn sight cheaper than this box, which would give you plenty of chance to do multiple colour schemes, this is based on the one from the Ahsoka series.
