NUNS WITH GUNS

No I am not talking that terrible movie of the above name, but the remaining Sisters of Battle models that I had left over from my Twisted Sister project, as I am trying to reduce my bits box collection rather than add to it, I thought I could add them as a small unit to go with the Inquisitor I have to check out my Space Marines, as I thought they would probably send a lot of different elements. The first thing was to choose an order for them, not wanting to go for any of the main ones, I had a quick search on Google, and found the Order of the Thorn, as seen below.

As I haven't bought a GW army book in many years I had no idea about them, but liked the color scheme, below are the four sisters and the cherub that came in the box.

No conversions on the above, just straight from the box, once these were finished I looked at the standard bearer bits, and thought I'd make a couple of shrines as gaming markers.

While I was searching the bits boxes I found a couple of Raging Heroes models that would fit with Sisters of Battle, so painted them up in the same color scheme, the one on the left was converted using some spares from the GW box set, to tie it in more, the one on the right is standard.

While I was routing through the bits boxes I also found the original Rogue Trader Assassin model, so painted that up as well, went for a black ninja color scheme, as the footwear and hood suggested a resemblance, I also darkened down any metal areas to reduce shine.

So why am I not finishing my Star Wars squads at the moment, well I'm saving them for Keith's Forced March painting challenge, where it's all about painting squads during March, this is not to be confused with imperial rebel ork and Wudughasts challenge of the same name where they are trying to paint Imperial Guard armies by the end of March. If Keith's blog has closed on comments, let me know in the comments, and I'll email your details across for you.

That's all for today, so until next time, stay safe, and have fun !

Cheers Dave

  1. Good stuff, Dave, with plenty of inspirational figures. Using the shrines as gaming markers is a great idea, as was your decision to fold those Raging Heroes figures into your SoB too. The OOP RT Assassin wins the day for me though. Such an awesome sculpt, imho, and your palette suits him down to the ground. Good stuff, and hopefully I'll be joining you for Keith's Forced March.

    1. Thank you Simon, trying to empty my bits boxes as much as possible, so gaming markers is a good way of using up some of the bits, had completely forgotten about the Raging Heroes models, so was good to get a couple out of the pile ! LOL When I was looking for this model couldn't find it, as this time I wasn't looking for it, I found it again, so was good to get it finished, I see GW have made a new version of it for Horus Heresy, along with a couple of different Clade's. Should be a good challenge to clear some units, hopefully.

  3. Liking these girls a lot and you chose the best scheme of the ones you show too. Makes perfect sense they'd be there to support an Inquisitor too I think.
That Assassin is such an icon in this hobby. Gutted I never owned one of these sculpts. You've painted him up pretty much as I would have too. Good stuff!

    1. Thank you Dai, as I enjoy painting bone and red it was an easy choice for me ! LOL Will probably keep adding different bits to the Inquisitor's entourage, just to keep adding interesting bits ! LOL Bought this one when I was at GW, can't remember why as I already had the new types, but glad I did, and finally found him long enough to paint ! LOL

  5. They look good to me, and I'm not up in all the law stuff to be honest but I can appreciate a well painted mini when I see one.

Oh and is the film you are referring to "Nude nuns with big guns"? Or is that your next post?😉
    Cheers Roger

    1. Thank you Roger, me either these days, haven't read a new army book in many years as they keep changing the history ! LOL
I think you may have the correct title, my memory is going, or the film was so bad I forgot half the title ! LOL

Nice work on these, Dave! :-) I have actually heard of the Sisters of Battle and have even read the graphic novel about them (you weren't expecting that, were you?)!

  8. As other's have said, this is a fantastic scheme for Sisters. It really emphasizes their gothic nature. I love using Seraphim Sepia on bone colors because if you thin it down a fair bit, you can make anything look good pretty much. I haven't thought about painting Sisters in a while but your scheme is so nice, its got me thinking about it again!

    1. Thank you Jeff, When I did an actual army of Sisters I did the order of the bloody rose, which was predominantly red armour, but I gave them away a long time ago to a friend who had his army stolen at a games night, so wanted a different scheme for these, and thought this was cool, plus I like painting bone ! LOL I used Agrax Earthshade neat on these for the shading to increase the contrast.
