Over the years i have bought many Space Marine models, and just because newer ones have come out, I never felt like I shouldn't use the old ones as well. This squad of Assault Marines is a prime example of this, the first 3 models are from the Rogue Trader era, and the two bare headed ones were actually the limited edition Christmas Marines, before being modified.
The next 3 are all MK VI armour one was originally a Blood Angel, another was a Space Wolf Blood Claw, and the third was a basic MK VI.
The 4 MK VII models originally started as 2 from the Death Company range, and the other 2 were from the Assault Marine box, from the Second Edition set.
All the above models are metal, with some plastic arms and weapons, including the Rogue Trader era models, to tie them together. They have been painted as part of the 5 th Company, shown by the black knee pad, and are squad 1 also marked on the knee pad. So why not save them for Keith's challenge, well they were mostly done before I was taken ill last year, and only required a little finishing off.
That's all for this post, so until next time, stay safe, and have fun !
Cheers Dave
Absolutely fantastic, so cool! I love the Christmas Marines, in fact I think I still have them somewhere!
ReplyDeleteThank you Suber, I thought mixing the armour would give them all a unique look, plus use all the models I have ! LOL
DeleteMan these are some old models haha, glad to see them still getting some table time!
ReplyDeleteThank you SD, yes some of these are over 30 years old, and still in the original lead, not the white metal they moved to ! LOL
DeleteLooking fantastic Dave!
ReplyDeleteThank you Michal, always fun to return to my first army ! LOL
DeleteI love the old rogue trader marines, in fact I much prefer them to the new one, they have so much more character. Great to see these getting some love mate. Cheers Roger.
ReplyDeleteThank you Roger, beakies will always be my favourite, and I will never move over to Primaris Marines ! LOL
DeleteSpace Wombles forever!!!
DeleteIndeed ! LOL
DeleteIts interesting to see the older marines and how squat they are! I know Primaris Marines have their supporters and opponents but it makes me appreciate how much more realistic the proportions have become. You did a great job with these Dave and its always impressive to see what kind of stuff you have in your collection because it is often new to me!
ReplyDeleteThank you Jeff, the models range from late 80's up to the 00's so a wide time span of GW, as you can see they are all of a similar size. The proportions may be better with the Primaris, but to someone who had collected marines since they began, it was a slap in the face expecting people to rebuy what they already had, which is why I never bothered, although it is getting costly on the second hand market ! LOL
DeleteMy understanding is that there is a growing collectors market for their earlier stuff. A lot of new product is great, but there are nostalgic buttons to pressed for a generation who can now look back on things that above all else, just brought a bit of joy …. perhaps as well, in a world that seemed a bit less complicated than today! :-)
ReplyDeleteThank you Norm, having been looking on ebay for additions to this collection I fully concur that there is a market, sometimes over inflated though ! LOL Agree about the less complicated times back then, I think for me I just prefer this style of marine to GW's new version, and that could just be my OCD talking and not liking change ! LOL
DeleteLove the range of eras represented here mate. Good looking bunch. Might I offer a request, when you show off like this, could we get a full squad pic too? (I know, demanding audience)
ReplyDeleteThank you Dai, yes many years worth of models here, many started off in one capacity and ended up in a totally different one ! LOL I will see what I can do for you on the group shot, as my photography isn't the best, but will try for you mate.
DeleteAll very nice, Dave! :-) I do like that first beaky marine in the red helmet! Always good to add to armies, however old they are - I started my Boxer Rebellion armies in 1996 and am still adding to them now!
ReplyDeleteThank you John, originally that one had two power fists, but as the rules changed with the different versions of the rules, he needed a pistol instead. Even though this is my oldest army, it is probably the one that still needs the most done to it, as I always wanted to do the entire chapter ! LOL
