LIKE A MOTH TO A FLAME

Last week my youngest son had work experience at my company, this isn't an easy way out, as I set the task of designing building and making a castable product in 5 days. We went through his ideas and he settled on a man eating plant, which we've called a Moon Flower, here is what it looks like

The background behind it is over the night time, it opens it's petals revealing it's bioluminescent centre, which attracts all creatures, once within reach the roots ensnare the creature and digests the flesh and fluids leaving the bones, which are pulled into the earth helping enrich the soil.

I think he's done an excellent job and it will make a great addition to my Alien Terrain section. Obviously I didn't have a huge amount of time for painting so finished off the last of the Kroot on my desk first is a Vulture Kindred which are effectively jump pack troops, this brings it up to a squad of 11 which will be as large as I go.

I also got 6 Kroot for squad 1 finished. This squad is in more action style poses.

I need another 6 Kroot to finish all the squads to the number I want, so at some point will need to get one more box to finish it all off. I also made a couple of trap markers using the man trap that you get in the kill team box, sure I need a few more so will have to see what else I can come up with, maybe some Punji sticks.

Bit of an eclectic mix today so hopefully you found something interesting, so until next time, stay safe, and have fun !

Cheers Dave

  2. That killer plant is fantastic Dave, and as you say, should make a great addition to your company's Alien Terrain section. Top work on the Kroot too - I'm always in awe as to how colourfully-patterned you make them. And those man-traps look like some fun little markers too. What a mixed bag this post is, and a cracker too.

    1. Thank you Simon, my son did a good job, and look forward to putting it up on the site. Only six more Kroot to go, plus some mounted squads maybe ! LOL In the old list you can have traps as part of your army, so having some markers was a good idea.

    1. Thank you Suber, it was a large learning curve for him this week, going from just coming up with a drawing to reasoning out why it is as it is ! LOL Not many left to finish this army again ( if it stays finished this time ! LOL)

  10. Very nice work by Stone & Stone! That is a cool looking piece of terrain and a creative design to boot. Its great to see some more Kroot from you. They seem to be like Tyranids. There's no end to them! :)

    1. Thank you Jeff, he really did a great job so very proud of what he achieved. When the army was just 1500 points it wasn't so bad as Tyranids, but since I've been adding what i fancy, it has become that way ! LOL

  11. Nice start to the design game by your son there. These addtions to your Kroot force look every bit as good as the previous ones. The mantraps look good but I feel like they're something that could easily be kitbashed to make more of - or perhaps the next project for your apprentice to sculpt that can go onto your store!

    1. Thank you Azazael, it wasn't something I would have thought of, so a great addition. It will almost be a shame when I finish the Kroot and have no more left to paint ! LOL That's a cool idea, will have to see what we can come up with.

Thinking back on all the years of seeing work experience students in an engineering environment, I think your plan for your son is the best I've heard of! :-) A specific task with a deliverable to be produced in a short timeframe (sorry about lapsing back into workspeak)! Excellent! And a very nice product to boot!
I like the Kroot, but I think they are my favourites of all your armies!

    1. Thank you John, I've seen some really bad work experience in different jobs, so wanted to make sure my son had a good experience, and it should always be an achievable target, otherwise they could leave the experience feeling bad. I enjoy all my armies but the Kroot are probably my favourite ! LOL
