NUMBER OF THE BEAST

Today is my 666 th post, as I don't have any demons to paint you'll have to put up with some of my regular models. First today is the Librarian Consul from the Horus Heresy range, which I've painted up for my Night Hawk chapter. The model has a lot of extra detail on it, so I'm thinking he will be the next in line to be Chief Librarian, and maybe a title like the keeper of the knowledge, as he carries several books, the Epistolery symbol on his shoulder was a bit of freehand, as were the red markings on the robes.

Next is the MK IV Tech Marine also from the Horus Heresy range, for the chapter symbol I didn't sculpt on the shoulder pad, as I liked the lines so freehanded the symbol, which I haven't done on a shoulder pad for a long time.

Last on the painting list today is the Saurus banner bearer, I've kept to my normal color scheme but increased the red areas which are the mark of Sotek to show he was marked for greatness.

I've also been busy putting together more models to paint, I've finished the rest of the second Rebel squad, I've done 5 as Mon Calamari, the two humans I've used spare heads from the multipart Rebel command models I got for my birthday, the last of the Rebel starter box was another Luke Skywalker, as I already have 3 of him, I've put him together for a Rebel Kallus model, I won't be doing any more on him until Forgotten Heroes later in the year. As the Rebel box is now all constructed, I've started the Imperial box, first up was Vader, where I'm actually going to have his light sabre retracted, and got the first 5 Stormtroopers constructed.

That's all for today, so until next time, stay safe, and have fun !

Cheers Dave

  4. More marvellous stuff.
I'm in awe of all the detail you paint. I think I tend to lose patience and rush.

  5. I don't know if its good luck to comment on number 666 but I'll go for it anyway! I can't believe how much you got done lately but full credit it to you. You're leading by example for the current painting challenge. Brian Cage was once known as The Machine in AEW but you might be able to take that nickname off of him!

The marines both look excellent and I like how you handled the Saurus as well. I wasn't expecting you to paint the banner in more of a gold color but I think it came out really nice. One of these days I'll paint something Lizardmen, hopefully!

As for the Star Wars, I'm a big fan of "Its a trap!", Mon Calamari so I look forward to seeing those painted up. That Vader is iconic looking though too and he will be an awesome one when done too. I want to say something like I can't believe how many unpainted Star Wars minis you have ready to be assembled but if I stop and think about it, I probably shouldn't be all that surprised haha!

    1. Thank you Jeff, I'm definitely getting back to my old speed, currently 5 different projects underway, and a lot of them are squads ! LOL As for being the machine that would have to be Azazael's title, as his output surpasses mine ! LOL
Enjoyed all three, and each gave different challenges for me to work through, which makes the paint more interesting, look forward to seeing what you can do with a Lizardman model, as I think it would suit your style.
I too like the Mon Calamari,, so will probably be no surprise that unit is the closest to being finished ! LOL Vader's new sculpt is great and the thinness of the cloak is awesome. These are just what I got for Christmas, as I try to keep on top of my Star Wars project, and not fall behind like I did with my 40K stuff ! LOL

    2. I'm a big fan of Calamari as well. Ideally fried with a nice tempura-type batter and salt & pepper. Are you playing Legion in some way, or just enjoying the collection/painting/hobby side of things right now?

    3. Personally I prefer them swimming in a tank, too chewy for me ! LOL

    4. sorry I missed answering this part, I have both sets of rules for Legion original and new, and not a massive fan of either, too many tokens and cards all over the place, currently working through a set of rules that will work for all my gaming , star Wars, 40K, Fantasy and anything else I want to game.

    1. Thank you Dai, I thought when everything went Primaris I wouldn't get anything new, but the Horus Heresy range has helped ! LOL

  7. Great collection of models here Dave - the marines look suitably colourful (almost as colourful as the Lizardman!) and the SW building should keep Anne's challenge happy for the time being!

    1. Thank you Azazael, the specialized marines certainly make themselves targets on the board ! LOL I'm almost finished on my construction for Anne's challenge.

  8. More stuff! Very nice ... especially the beakie with the yellow cape. Very bright. I recently learned from a friend, who is painting up some of those micro-armor scale space marines for the new larger-scale battles Horus Heresy game, that apparently putting down a coat of pink and then painting over it with yellow makes for a vibrant yellow. I am wondering if you did something like that?

    1. Thank you Anne, I actually have several ways of doing yellow, one is painted with flesh tones then covered in yellow wash, but this one was done with a base coat of GW Yriel yellow, a layer of GW Iyanden yellow contrast, block out Yriel again, highlight with GW Flash Gitz yellow, and fine highlight of GW Phalanx yellow, and this was done over a black undercoat. the contrast layer seems to seal it well, so all the yellow on top is nice and bold.
