BUSTED

No I'm not talking about the band, but the great Viking bust my wife got for me for Christmas, she must have picked it up when we visited the Viking museum in York. Is it designed for painting, no, but since when has that ever stopped me !LOL I went for historical colors, as we all know I don't paint much historical's

Was very pleased with the hair and cloak on this one. I've also finished my pledge for join-annes-2026-miniature-assembly-challenge with the second half of the second Stormtrooper squad, and two 7 man squads of scout troopers.

Talking of busted, I may be a little slower for the next couple of months, some of you may recall I was having trouble with my right hand last year, well I had a procedure on Saturday to un trap a nerve in my elbow, which was causing the problem, this is normally done under general anesthetic, but because of my form of cancer, they could only do a local, this meant I got to be awake for the whole thing, did mean I could leave sooner after the procedure though ! LOL They said it can take up two months to notice any change, but will try to get back to painting before that, this was also the reason I was late commenting on your blogs.

That's all for today, so until next time, stay safe, and have fun !

Cheers Dave

  2. Great work on the Viking, Dave. It looks really nice and was clearly meant for painting! :) I'm glad the surgery went well though that does sound pretty nerve wracking to me. I would have to look away the entire time! I hope you have a speedy recovery and I'll look forward to seeing more miniatures and hearing from you when you feel up to it!

    1. Thank you Suber, exercising my hand often, and the control is coming back. Nice to have a complete change of pace, and the different scale gave it's own challenges as well, which I thourgholy enjoyed

  5. Sincerely hope that procedure takes care of the hand problem Dave! Here's to a swift and pain-free recovery.
Being that the anesthetic was local, did the surgeon offer you to watch as they worked? Reminds me of the one time I had to suffer a scope up my backside and the doc asked if I wanted to watch the screen showing what the camera found inside me - to which I said "Hell no - hurry the hell up already!".

I like the Viking - Green is always a good colour for their cloths. Will he be on display on the living room mantle?

Now you have so many Empire troops to paint! Won't you get burnout on all that white armour?

    1. Thank you Dai, no kept it well hidden, and I luckily was unconscious for my endoscopy ! LOL
Did a little research and green and cream were commonly shown, plus I had some new greens I wanted to try out ! LOL
I don't mind working on big batches of the white armor, just get in a rhythm with them, only got one unit left to basecoat, as the sling came off yesterday, so was pushing to see how far I could go ! LOL

    2. Cowards!! I had my last colonoscopy without any anesthetic (long story) and got to watch it on the screen too, I said to the doc doing it.."So when does the sub with Raquel Welch turn up"? Cheers Roger.

  7. I was only at York Museum myself the other month, so really enjoyed looking at your bust Dave. You've done a great job on it. I hope you have a super-speedy recovery with your arm, so you can get back to fully enjoying the hobby - that's a lot of white you need to paint on those Imperial Stormtroopers etc. LOL!!!

    1. Thank you Simon, it was a great place to visit, and was somewhere I'd always wanted to go. Not back up too sculpting yet but already painting, and have all the units through the first two stages, and most of the way through stage 3, so shouldn't take too long hopefully, aiming for them all to be finished by the end of February ! LOL

I hope everything works out with your elbow/arm. I think I'm inheriting my mom's arthritis cuz I can feel it in my knees.

    1. Thank you Mr. Martin, I enjoyed the bust, so may look at getting some more.
My hand is getting better every day, and is already better than what it was before the operation. Have you tried soaking the affected joints in warm salty water, it always helped my dad with his hands.

Nice work on the bust, Dave! :-) Let's hope your elbow and wrist get back to normal! I had to have a small "spot" removed from my nose (it turns out that it was nothing sinister) and I had a local anaesthetic for the operation - didn't feel a thing during the op but having the anaesthetic certainly made my eyes water!

    1. Thank you John, I really enjoyed doing it. I can totally agree on the anaesthetic, lost count of the injections in my armpit to numb my arm, and definitely felt them ! LOL
