Got a couple more Christmas presents finished today, first is Queen Amidala from the breakfast cereal collection, my eldest daughter managed to find me one to complete the collection, painting was interesting to match the reference, and it turns our that George Lucas used Mongolian ceremonial dress and hair for most of her wardrobe from episode 1
Next is Princess Leia, from when she was enslaved in Jabba's palace, this model was a gift from the seller my daughter ordered from, with this costume I almost called the post you're not going out in that ! LOL
I have also been busy with join-annes-2026-miniature-assembly-challenge/ and got most of the Rebel starter box, including a squad of Wookies, 7 commando's, a squad of 11 troopers which I've done as all Twileks, I've also started the next squad of troopers, which I've used heads from the Swoop box to add some variation.
That's all for today, so I'd like to wish you all a very happy and healthy 2026, so until next time, stay safe and have fun !
Cheers Dave

Excellent work, and I'm looking forward to seeing those Twileks painted.
ReplyDeleteThank you misterc, already started blocking in colors on the flesh tones, gone for six different colors, to add some nice variation.
DeleteLeia and her mum both look lovely in their respective get-ups. I'm sure with the Queen being so covered-up, she might have a disapproving frown were she to see that her daughter was brought so low as to serve as a scantily clad slave girl to a Hutt gangster! So much rolling over in whatever grave options Naboo culture prefers. LOL
ReplyDeleteO! and the remainder of the post! (That I so hastily forgot to comment on prior to hitting "Submit".)
DeleteI do like the more modular style the current Legion range seems to favour these days and love that there are so many options to mix and match amongst the Rebel faction to create some really unique sculpts. You're going to have your hands full painting all that!
Thank you Dai, yes they definitely had two different approaches to clothing during the different movies, and I couldn't believe when Wallmart removed Leia in slave girl outfit, the cancel culture is in full force ( poor Al Snow and head getting removed as well !).
DeleteThere is a lot more versatility with the new kits, the one bit I was disappointed with was no Prune Face in the Rebel Commando's, plus they still don't make female bodies, like Fantasy Flight did, they have started including female faces, which is a step in the right direction ! LOL
Oh I do like that Princess Leia figure (can't for the life of me think why though?), as expected you've hit the ground running with two lovely painted miniatures, and a bunch of plastics ready to go! I'm hoping to get a few more of the Dead Zone mini's done in January so might nip over to Anne's blog as I need motivation to attack the dreaded sprues!
ReplyDeleteCheers Roger
Thank you Roger, must be the great color scheme ! LOL Really want to make the most of the challenge this time if just to prove to myself that I will ignore my health ! LOL I think Ann's challenge works brilliantly in conjunction with the painting one, as you get recognition twice for the same model ! LOL
DeleteHaha, everything I was to say, Dai already did!! LOL What a difference between mum and daughter! Pretty cool job on both and of course on assembling all those other minis! Wow, it's kind of overwhelming!!
ReplyDeleteThank you Suber, you can certainly see the difference in public opinion between the two time periods ! LOL been trying to get a bit of construction done every day since Christmas, rather than just letting it sit there ! LOL
DeleteYou're off to a cracking start on the challenges! I thought I was off to a hot start but you're putting me to shame.
ReplyDeleteThat Amidala sculpt is pretty nice and it came from breakfast cereal!? That is really a surprise and cool to see. Whoever designed her makeup and outfits in Phantom Menace really knocked it out of the park. They're one of the more impressive parts of the movie, I'd say.
I look forward to seeing some wookies and Twi'leks down the road. You can't ever have too many of those!
Thank you Jeff, just trying to get back up to my old speed ! LOL
DeleteBack in the day when cereal came with good freebies ! LOL All of Amidala's outfits were based off of Mongolian ceremonial outfits.
Already started on the painting of them, and thought a full squad of Twileks would be different.
It sure looks like Leah has been having a tough day.
ReplyDeleteMore assembly challenge minis! :) I like the building you posed them in front of--it looks almost exactly like one of the buildings a good friend of mine uses when he runs his giant "Khartoum Game" every year or three. Come to think of it, I think he might be running one soon ... I'll have to check my email.
Looks like you are having a very productive time with miniatures.
Thank you Anne, indeed she does ! LOL
DeleteTrying to make the most of my time and get as much done as possible where I can.
The building was a 3D print my children got for me a few years back.
Nice collection of models again and a thoughtful gift from your daughter. Good to see Leia is relaxed there as well. I recently saw an eBay seller selling Slave Leia armed with a pistol in an action pose - right after killing the slug, I assume!
ReplyDeleteI like the Wookiees, but not so sure about those Twi'leks. I don't think they can be trusted. Better to call in the Empire to carpet bomb them ASAP.
Thank you Azazael, all my children can be very thoughtful, seen a few different poses, to be honest it wasn't a model I would have got, but as it was a freebie from the printer, I wasn't not going to paint it ! LOL
DeleteThe Wookies are taking a while as so many different colors of fur on each one ! LOL Twileks seem to get a bad rap, and cerainly suffer the most racial slurs !
