MAKE AN ENTRANCE

I know the title is pretty vague, but it's exactly what I've done. This is another commission for my client, and it's an entrance way for the vampire's lair, so it needed to be Gothic in style, plus covered in snow.

As you can see above I've made some steps for the internal of the building, these are removable so you can get the front of the building right to the edge of the board. The Demonic Gargoyle I've moulded and cast, so expect to see that on the website soon, I did break one of the horns off on purpose to add variation to the two sides.

If you remember I recently did some paintings on wall sections, my client thought it would be cool to have some blank sections that he could place inbetween the portrait sections, I've done 4 the same size, and 4 double the width so he can vary the positioning in the corridor.

My client asked if I could add some snow to the trees I did the bases for, so I happily obliged.( if you are thinking of doing this on some of your own trees, try to use ones with stiffer branches, as it's easier to apply the glue)

He also asked if I could add some snow to the small cart base as well.

That's all for today, more commission stuff coming, but I may get a piece of mine finished first, we'll just have to see, so until next time stay safe, and have fun !

Cheers Dave

  1. Gorgeous work on the entrance, Dave! I love the gargoyles. And the snow on the steps is great too. It's all really evocative. You have a lucky client.

    1. Thank you Matthew, the client provided a picture along the lines of what he was looking for, so I had a great starting point to work from, then it was adding touches that I thought would work for it.

    1. Thank you Tarmor, it is mostly made from the insulation foam, with a few details made in greenstuff and plasticard, and a bit of balsa wood as well, just to get the right textures.

    1. Thank you John, the recipe I use to colour under the snow seems to work well and add a bit of shade to it.

  5. These look great, and the snow looks really good (though I've seen a bit much of the stuff in real life recently).
I've finally caught up with your blog, and it's cracking stuff. Inspiring and informative.

  6. Frosty goodness! Loving those wall sections too. Far too many manufacturers of similar "dungeon terrain" make them too "busy" imo, whereas these look perfect for dungeon delving adventures.

    1. Thank you Dai, I might have to produce some of those sections for the site I think, plain one's like these and some with the painting canvas's like I previously did.

  7. One of the reasons why I've never been tempted to do commissions is that I fear I would be unmotivated and saddled with projects that wouldn't be enjoyable for me to work on. To me, everything you've worked on here looks pretty fun to complete. The castle entrance is really cool and I like the statues in particular. I don't tend to think of vampires and snow going together but its like peanut butter and jelly when you think about it!

    1. Thank you Jeff, I know what you mean, as the products on the site, most people ask for how it's shown in the pictures, so after the 50 th time it can get repetitive ! LOL luckily the commissions always have new challenges, and gets the mind thinking. Yes Transylvania, and Romania can get pretty cold, where a lot of the legends about Vampires comes from, so it makes sense ! LOL
