EACH SIDE IS NOT LIKE THE OTHER

Yo may remember the staircases I made for my client before Christmas, and he thought it would be cool to have another level for them to butt up to. I wanted to add a bit of interest to some of the sides, but I did the first one as just a plain wall.

Next I did a recessed alcove with a jade dragon vase on a plinth, this could be entrance to a secret passage way, or just the remains of a loved one.

The next side I did was a simple doorway, which could lead to another room or maybe to a dungeon, you can also see that I did marble flooring on the second level.

The last side I thought an indoor water feature with a gargoyle face, would be fun.

The last piece i have to show for my client is a sculpted and painted dragon banner top, my client already had the banner and pole, I just added the top, and below is the reference he sent me to base it off of.

That's all for today, hopefully the next post will be some of my own PWYG entrances, so until next time, stay safe, and have fun !

Cheers Dave

  1. LIking the idea of this new upper level piece and all the different sides are very nicely done as is your signature "marble" effect.

The pole-topper is the winner of this post though! Such a tiny piece, but damn, that's spot on with the artwork Dave. Bravo!

    1. Thank you Dai, the contrast paints certainly make doing marble a lot quicker now, and always good to keep practicing ! LOL
All those years of sculpting 6 mm models really paid off when sculpting small scale pieces ! LOL

  2. I love that scenery piece. The fact that all four sides are different provides a nice variety in terms of gaming. I also do love that banner top, wow what a piece!!

    1. Thank you Suber, that was my thinking to add extra interest each time you use it, so it doesn't just become a box ! LOL Took a while to work out how best to do it, but worked out in the end.

    1. Thank you Stewart, pretty quick on these, as I marked them out before sticking them together to make it easier, although I did forget to put in the corner stone with one set, and had to add them with greenstuff ! LOL

    1. Thank you Iain, the banner was something different to do, I found that watering down the black contrst gave a better result on the white this time around.

    1. Thank you Jeff, as it's a historical piece, there is very little wiggle room on interpretation so I'm glad it turned out right.

Interesting reading your reply to Jeff - sometimes historical figures can be quite difficult to work on, but that miniature dragon is spot on! :-) I like the different appearance of each of the walls as well!

  8. Thank you John, whenever I've done historical pieces in the past, I often found contrasting ideas on what was right, so found it difficult, and preferred when the customer said make it like this ! LOL Glad you liked the banner, and I thought the different sides could add a lot to different games.
