OFF THE WORKBENCH

Been a while since I've done one of these, but didn't feel like painting this weekend, while working on commissions, so instead used the time I had between drying times to build some new models instead which will help with next May's Monster May(hem). First let's start with my favourite realm Star Wars, I wanted a Eopie, as these appear a lot on Tatooine, once the basic model is finished, I'll take a cast so I can have some with baggage or a rider to help populate the streets.

Next is a Correllion Hound, these were first seen in the movie Solo, but have since appeared in multiple series, and will fit in well with the crime boss I built a few years ago.

Now we move over to the realm of 40K for a Khymerae, as GW haven't released a new model for these and the old ones are really expensive on Ebay, I've started to build the first of three I need to finish my Wych army.

Last today is another Great Knarloc, you may remember I already have 3, an original Forgeworld one and two I've already built, and I'd been hoping that GW might release a plastic one, which doesn't seem on the cards, and the price on Ebay is extortionate, I've decided to make some more, this will be a second with a mounted weapon, then I'm thinking of doing a couple of more without riders or baggage.

That's all today, hopefully I'll have something painted by Friday, but we'll have to see, so until next time stay safe, and have fun !

Cheers Dave

  1. You: these prices are too high for these miniatures. I’ll just make one myself.”

Me: works overtime and steals money from his children to pay for high priced miniatures.

    lol.
Great job with the sculpting. Should all be very cool. 😀

    1. Thank you Stewart, two different approaches, but in the end we get the same result, we get the models we want ! LOL The only real difference is I can get some unique ones that no one else has ! LOL

  2. All of them look fantastic! I like the dynamic poses of the Knarloc and Khymerae. First time I've heard of the Correlian Hound, what a cool creature! Looks a bit like a cross between a dog and a Rancor, haha :D

    1. Thank you snapfit, one of the real bonuses of scratch builds is you are not limited to what is easily castable so can go as wild as you like, as long as it can support itself ! LOL That is a great analogy of the hound.

  3. Oh, I can see some daring works. It takes quite a lot of courage, will and skill to achieve what you got here!

These are all great, Dave! :-) Very nice indeed! I can't pick a favourite here! If you ever decide to do characters from the Star Wars graphic novels, I think Doctor Aphra would be a good one to have!

    1. Thank you John, I haven't got a favourite here either as they are all needed or wanted by me ! LOL Just looked her up as it wasn't a character I knew of (my expanded universe knowledge is pretty limited ! LOL) and could be an interesting character to do, and would easily not be out of place wandering the streets of Mos Eisley.

Definitely not! Not giving too much away, but she sometimes works for Darth Vader and has been to Tatooine.

    3. Don't worry John, didn't give anything away as I've been reading up on her on Wookiepedia this morning. It turns out I already have a model of her, and her two droids 0-0-0 and BT-1 as well from my Imperial Assault sets.

Excellent! :-) Triple Zero is a brilliant character who contrasts completely with C3P0!

I forgot to mention that if I don't feel like painting I do some cleaning up and basing of figures. I find that easier than painting and it's still making progress.

    7. It's as important as the painting of the models, but doesn't get the glory as much as a nicely painted miniature ! LOL

  5. That's quite the extra-terrestrial menagerie you've sculpted, Dave. LOL!!! Great stuff, and such an eclectic range of aliens too. Looking forward to seeing them all painted up.

    1. Thank you Simon, variety is the spice of life after all ! LOL There are a couple more aliens on the workbench, but totally shrouded in secrecy as they are going to be some new releases for next year ! LOL

  7. So cool! Great sculpting. I have enough trouble smoothing out green stuff when I use it for a filler. I'm in mortal dread of sculpting it into anything but a ball, and maybe some cables thanks to Green Stuff World...

    1. Thank you DAM, sculpting is like painting, it takes practice, and learning the best way to use the medium, and you pick up tricks and short cuts, the more you do it, but I can understand how it can seem daunting.

  8. Your sculpting always astounds me, I'm jealous that you can just add models to your units, especially those rarer ones.

  10. My comment is pretty belated at this point but I wanted to say that I instantly recognized what you were sculpting and these are all going to look great with a bit of paint slapped on too. I'd also say that if you've got time for Eopie's, then we might need to see a Gungan from you! I'd vote for Boss Nass myself but maybe somebody would like Jar-Jar so that he can be killed in their gaming forays haha!
