Some of you may remember last years challenge I started the underground entrance from Lars Farm, but then got distracted by Jabba's palace, well I'm happy to say I've got the master moulded and run off a cast, I will be adding these to my store shortly. It's cast hollow so you can put interior pieces in if you want, and also makes it cheaper than a solid cast.
Now some of you may be saying you can get MDF or 3D prints of these, and you'd be right, the difference with this one, is the texture is already done for you. Now why is this a starting point you may be wondering, it's because I now want to detail it up to look closer to the one in the films and series, so you will probably be seeing this again once detailed, unless I get distracted ! LOL
That's all for this time, so until net time stay safe and have fun !
Cheers Dave
That looks excellent, Dave, and definitely having the texture on it will be a big bonus. I've seen loads of people posting about 3D printed ones, and the first thing they all do is spend a while texturing it once they get it.
ReplyDeleteThank you Simon, I remember from the 3D shop I got at Christmas, it took two days to get the texture on it, half the first day, and the second half the next day, and from what I've read the MDF is worse, especially where it's supposed to represent a curve.
DeleteLooks spot on, Dave! :-) Can't really imagine it working in MDF!
ReplyDeleteThank you John, the dome shape becomes more of a geometric shape, so requies a lot of filling ! LOL
DeleteNicely done, Dave, it looks spot on and is only missing a couple of smouldering skeletons to complete the scene LOL!
ReplyDeleteNOOOOOOoooooooooo!!!
DeleteThank You Matt, no skeletons on this one as the time period I'm doing Owen and Beru are live and well ! LOL
DeleteLOL Faust
DeleteLooks pretty awesome. Partially wondering what it would look like to have several of these buildings and start connecting them up?!
ReplyDeleteThank you Faust, that's actually a cool idea, like a hab complex
DeleteIt looks great to me and I love the texturing on it (which really captures the look of Tatooine's buildings). I agree with Matt above. Without some moisture farmer skeletons, I'm just not sure if the terrain is to scale or not! ;)
ReplyDeleteThank you Jeff, glad the texturing came out. The question is did the stormtroopers, kill them for hiding the droids, or was it a domestic disturbance that went bad ! LOL
DeleteLooks like the movie set to me. But unlike those psychopaths above I actually prefer my terrain without dead bodies of loved ones….
ReplyDeleteI didn’t know you had a store.
Thank you Stewart, don't worry no dead bodies on this one ! LOL
DeleteIt's been running for a long time now and you can see it here https://wargamesterrainworkshop.co.uk/
Nice building! :)
ReplyDeleteThank you Tamsin, I may do some larger ones later.
DeleteThat looks the business! you are so right about the texture as well, and of course the fact that MDF doesn't do curves well! Frankly I would think you'd be better off starting with a plastic ball pit ball, or toilet cistern ball cock than going down the MDF route 😁.
ReplyDeleteCheers Roger.
Thank you Roger, as I recall Michael Awdry did one of the MDF kits a while back, his end result was really good, but he did mention how much work it was to get to that point. Anything curved would be a good starting point, or if making your own, the builders foam is great as you can shape it easily and will take the texture well as well, as some of the plastics can resist anything sticking to it.
DeleteYou can waste time with your friends when your chores are done, Dave. :) This looks awesome, and getting distracted by Jabba's palace wasn't a bad thing. I'm always in awe of your Star Wars stuff (that Krayt dragon and Ben's house are particular standouts for me). Very cool!
ReplyDeleteThank you Keith, and don't worry no Tosche station this year ! LOL There's just so much I'd like to build, and just not enough time, resisting starting some cantina's is really hard ! LOL The space on where to store them is helping me not to start ! LOL
DeleteGreat model, wth added texture included. What's not to like ?
ReplyDeleteThank you Joe, always try to put in the right texture on scenery and models, as it will make it easier for painters of all levels.
DeletePretty neat. I like that it is hollow. As you say, you can put miniatures inside and they are also much lighter to carry around to events if you have a bunch of them.
ReplyDeleteThank you Ann, indeed being able to carry multiple with the reduced weight is a bonus, also keeps the costs down, plus I like to have interiors on my scenery where possible.
DeleteLooking great there, Dave! :D
ReplyDeleteThank you Azazel, haven't got much further yet, keep getting distracted ! LOL
