" WEATHERING THE STORM "

Hope all had a good bank holiday weekend, and found some time for hobby and spending time with loved ones. Today I thought I would show one of the weathering techniques I use for painting large space ships.
STEP 1

After a undercoat of grey primer, I put a even layer of black wash over the whole model, and then let fully dry.
STEP 2

Next step was to do a light even drybrush of white over all the panels that would be white, then left to fully dry.
STEP 3

I then repeated step 2 as it's better to build up in small layers.
STEP 4

Here we add any markings you want, even the paint is slightly on the thinner side, it allows the weather effect from the previous layers to show through, if using transfers ( I never use them) remember to set them with Micro Set, and then dissolve the edges with Micro Sol.
STEP 5

Here I've added some chipping to the markings with some white paint, I tend to apply to edges and raised areas where paint is easier to chip.
STEP 6

Lastly using some black wash I add some streak marks to leading edges, remember to apply the wash from the furthest point to the leading edge, as the edge should be darker.
Hope you found this informative, until next time have fun !
Cheers Dave

    1. Thank you Bryan, always happy to share ideas and techniques that people might not know, also great excuse to get round to painting models that have sat in the painting que for far too long! LOL

  2. Hi Dave, a good tutorial which gives you an excellently finished ship, I've been applying lozenge camouflage transfers to some 1/144 planes and have not come across micro sol before, I must check that out.
Finally just wanted to congratulate you on you brush control with the orange and grey lines, they are superb and because of your previous weathering there is very little room for corrections, very well done.

    1. Thank you John, most model shops stock it, the micro set makes the transfers bend easily over curve surfaces and rivets by softening the transfer, the micro sol eliminates the sheen to a transfer and blends out the edges making them look more like painted symbols.
Many years of practice on the lines, and making sure to only do them on a day when there is no shake in my hand ! LOL
