" HAS ANYONE BEEN TO ALL THE STARS, I WANT TO BE THE FIRST"

So from my last post you may have gathered that I really like Star Wars, and over the years have had several collections of figures based on this subject, starting with the Palitoy figures: then later on some of Grenadier Miniatures figure sets before the company folded.

Now, I didn't collect any of the Wizards of the Coast versions, mores the pity, so when Imperial Assault came out by FFG, I sat on the fence for a long time trying to decide whether I wanted to buy another set of figures. But when they started releasing the bounty hunters, I was finally swayed, as these were my favourite characters of the whole franchise.

"I WANT THEM ALIVE,
NO DISINTEGRATIONS!"

So I started buying just the bounty hunters and got all four that FFG released, but was disappointed that Zuckuss and 4-LOM weren't released along with them in the first and so far.., subsequent waves. Not being the most patient of people I decided to convert a C3PO into 4-LOM and scratch build a Zuckuss.

As you can see in the picture I also converted Boba Fett`s cape as I didn't like the standard one.

By now I had purchased the main core game and several other booster packs, with no idea what I wanted to do with the game. I initially thought I would just play the rules that came in the box, so set about painting some more of my growing mountain of models .

"I ASSUME YOUR PROGRAMMED
FOR ETIQUETTE AND PROTOCOL!"

Next I painted C3PO and R2D2, it was at this point I knew what I wanted to do. I wanted to make a part of one of the settlement city's of Tatooine.. on a 6' x 4' board, using the Imperial Assault rules, but turning it into almost an RPG with a city full of NPC's, that may be neutral, or might be aligned to the Imperium or the Rebellion.

So as you can see in the picture I have started to paint some more R2 units and protocol droids.

I'm also planning as I go along, to do some conversions to make an R4 unit and Death Star droid and any others I can convert or scratch build.

"ECHO BASE, I'VE FOUND THEM! "

Now, anyone who has been collecting the Fantasy Flight Games range will know they haven't made a massive amount of vehicles.. as of yet. So when I spotted a Revell Snow Speeder in 1:52 scale I snapped it up. The pilots are a little on the small scale but compared to the AT-ST that FFG make, it's pretty darn close.. as you can see in the picture.

"AH ! DO THAT AGAIN!"

Sorry my Hutenese is a little rusty.

Wanting to base my gaming on Tatooine, it would be rude not to do some of the denizens of Jabba's Palace. Having gotten myself the box set and booster packs which I am slowly painting, I've also been converting some of the Weequay's and Gamoreen guards to add variation to the mix; and I want to put Jabba on his throne, as it were, with Salicious B Crumb, and maybe Leia?

But to start off, I have begun building the Max Reebo band, the first two of which, I've now completed skulpting. These are Sy Snootles, and Joh Yowza shown here in their master greens.

"LAUGH IT UP FUZZBALL!"

this final part is for Steve, as we all know how much he likes his wookies >>chuckles<<. So here is Gaarkhan, a hero from the box set.. and Chewbacca.

As the observant of you will have noticed I haven't done the bases yet: these will get done when I do the gaming boards to match them in.

Until next time have Fun !

  1. RAAAAAR!! UUGH! WWWRAUUUGGH!! <-Yep, the Wookie approves ^^

Wait... a full 6 by 4 table, displaying a choice slice of a Tatooine city - full of cool NPC`s and role playing potential (all Imperial Assault compatible)? Now THIS I wanna see. Regular updates on this please, when its started of course *grins like a manic fanatic*

    1. Will do Steve I'm hoping to cheat a bit with the buildings by making then casting them in kit form so can churn out a lot in a short space of time, the base boards are easy as I can use 6 of my flat texture board and already have some rocks that will fit in perfectly if I want to play out in the dunes or pod racing

  2. Heh... I was reading this thinking, good ole Steve, as enthusiastic as ever over "Star Wars", and then realised at the bottom that Dave had written it!! Clearly you're both members of the 'Mad as Hatters about Star Wars" club :-)

Great to see Gaarkhan with a lick of paint of him, though Chewie's sculpt appears somewhat larger in scale? Nice selection of Protocol droids too - with at least one little bit of conversion I believe, and some great paint schemes. Wonderful post.

    1. Thanks Simon haven't had an outlet for my Star Wars enthusiasm until now. Expect to see a lot more. There is some scale change between some of the models but still fun to paint. Yes there is a little converting on some of the protocol droids. Glad you like the painting

  3. it's the Max Reebo band I really want to see more of. Your WIP masters of Sy Snootles, and Joh Yowza are fantastic.

This continued blog support for Star Wars is great news for the enthusiasts, especially if currently involved with collecting for and playing Imperial Assault, or the Edge of the Empire rpg game (which, btw, is the best thing since sliced bread; especially when combined).

The Snow Speeder looks tasty enough to eat (mine with a flake on top please). Looks pretty close enough in scale to me, to be extremely useful on the table. Really nice bit of kit that.

Thanks Dave yet for another cool post. Do you ever sleep LOL!

    1. Thanks Dave, I'm planning to do all the members of the band from the extended version and have already started the next two.
Not that I'm supposed to know but my inlaws have got me an AT-AT in the same scale for my birthday, which will make a great addition. Will check out the RPG rules you mention.
Don't sleep a great deal no

    4. Actually, I can vouch with extreme positive thoughts on that you tube link. ANYone wanting to know what Edge of the Empire really is (and avoid all the mis info on it that`s out there) should study this video. Either of two things will happen. One: you wont sit through it all... in which case its not a game for you anyway lol. Or by the end of it you`ll know (or not) if this is a game you really want to play.
  4. Oooh, more Star Wars goodness. Now, whilst I am currently saying "No" to Imperial Assault, this kind of thing does make it a bit more difficult to resist. As Chewbacca was my first ever SW figure, I do have a soft spit for Wookies in general, so seeing them painted up so nicely, along with a variety of droids and bounty hunters is making my 8 year old self start whining in the back of my mind.

Curse you, Dave and you too Steve, for letting him on here...

  16. I know mate, it is disappointing isn't it. Like you, I had been hoping to cherry pic some some choice pieces for my Edge of the Empire and Imp Assault. The scales not TOO out in places. Probably fine for vehicles and so on. But 1.7 out of 5 5th is a little too discrepant for interpretation of varying heights in human beings, I fear :(
    Reply
  17. actually I`m wrong.....15% makes it 1.4 out of 5 5th scale difference, lol.

  18. Okay so figures are likely to be out then but vehicles could be a go, it is a bank holiday Steve so your maths is allowed to be off first time round ! LOL

  19. Great stuff, I particularly like the all the different droids, It sounds really sad, but I've always thought it would be cool to have a collection of all the different R2 units seen in the movies/series.

    Cheers Roger.

  22. Soooooon mate. Friday or Saturday for sure. I`m playing scenarios from Imp Assault and literally painting the minis needed for each successive campaign mission as I need them. But I think the most fun I`m having is with the prequel campaign (circa five years prior to Last Hope... "Star Wars: Rebels" era) which I`m running through solo, using the FFG rpg book (all 450 pages of it lol. Brilliant for narrative play. You should check out that hour & forty minutes you tube video I gave the link to earlier; you`ll see why I rate it so high. You`d be amazed how much fun you can have with sessions evolved around a cantina, with just a few figures, a good plotline, chance cards, and some nice thematic terrain.

  23. Sounds good did try to watch the link but it said the video was unavailable, I'm thinking on basing my adventures around Dash Rendar and his robot Leebo

  24. OOo, good old Dash and, his faithful LE-series Cybot. when would you set it... Hoth era?

I am finding a real appeal in messing about in the half decade years leading up to Yavin. Hera Syndulla`s haydays.

  25. Maybe setting it in the same time period you have so I can include Hera and some of the characters from Rogue one could be there ?

    1. excellent idea Dave. Same setting Edge of the Empire focuses in on.
  26. Excellent, want to be able to include as many of my favourites as possible. Even tempted to build Dash's ship the Outrider !

  27. OOoo, but ship interiors would be more practical for gaming in, yeah?
