been busy on commission work this week so nothing for Apocalypse Me, or Orctober ( I know, two challenges at the same time, who would be that mad ! Well me obviously ! LOL), as I have been busy on commission pieces, the first three are for one of my regular clients, and have a spooky theme to them, which is very apt for this time of year. First up is a fireplace, this was built out of foamcore, some plasticard, and a bit of greenstuff.
Next is a Grandfather Clock, this was mostly plasticard, some acetate and a bit of greenstuff.
Last is a portrait, this was greenstuff on a plasticard back, I gave the canvas texture, to give it a bit of realism, and it's been a while since I've done a bit of traditional art, let alone in miniature ! LOL
Here is a group shot, with a model for scale.
Last today is the recent commission I did for Jeff over at kuribospainting why have I not shown this before, well I wanted Jeff, to post about it first, which he already has.
This was an interesting piece to do, based off of a Black Bellied Pangolin ( one of the larger species), as it's based off of a real creature, it has to be 100 % accurate, and have includes the reference picture below.
Still got a lot more commissions to finish, so no idea what will be in the next post, so will be a surprise to us all ! LOL So until next time, stay safe, and have fun !
Cheers Dave
Those scenic bits look very nice. Its inspiring to see that sort of stuff as I think they make terrain look much more realistic and impressive. As far as the pangolin goes, all I can say is I appreciate your patience sculpting all of those scales! :)
ReplyDeleteThank you Jeff, got a few more bits to do for this commission, including a lot more portraits ! As you are now painting all those scales, I would have thought you may have cursed me ! LOL
DeleteNice work on... well everything, especially impressed with the portrait, and that Pangolin really is a thing of beauty mate!
ReplyDeleteCheers Roger.
Thank you Roger, when it's something for someone else, I always like to push myself further than if it's just for me ! LOL
DeleteFantastic work on the scenery, the portrait is especially impressive! Love the pangolin, looks just like the reference picture!
ReplyDeleteThank you snapfit, it's been a long time since doing what's considered proper art, so glad it translated well, only 9 more to go ! LOL Making something that is based off of real life is a lot more time consuming as there is no room for error, so glad it looks like the reference.
DeleteGreat stuff all around.
ReplyDeleteHow did you ship the pangolin?
Thank you Stewart, was shipped via Royal Mail, but just listed as sculpture, so no problem with illegal Pangolin scale trafficking ! LOL
DeleteYou continue to be a master of furniture, playing a game of Heroquest with all of the stuff that you make would be fun! And that pangolin looks great, an unexpected surprise haha.
ReplyDeleteThank you SD, I find old style easier, as there is so much reference material to draw from, the Pangolin was a welcome challenge, and is always good to keep testing your limits.
DeleteI like the fireplace...especially. well done.
ReplyDeleteThank you Glasgow Warhog, it's my favourite out of the bunch as well.
DeleteNice work on the commission items, Dave! :-) I find sometimes small detailed pieces take relatively more time and effort than larger pieces so you're doing well. And I hadn't realised the pangolin model was so large!
ReplyDeleteThank you John, indeed the smaller detailed pieces take as much time as the larger bits, I just try to work on multiple at the same time, so don't have to worry about drying times ! LOL
DeleteGreat stuff Dave - the scenery looks good as always, but the texture on the painting as well as the portrait is what really elevates it! Great work on the Pangolin as well. I know Jeff was very happy with it (need to comment on that post as well!)
ReplyDeleteThank you Azazael, they were fun challenges, and you're spot on about the texture adding to the portraits. WAs happy to be able to help a mate out, to get the present he wanted for his dad.
