Please don't look into my soul ! LOL Yes I have painted up my new spooky mirrors, Ive put some details into each of the mirrors based on the background I listed when I showed the sculpts.
The mirror of the Dead has swirling souls in it's reflection, it's a bit hard to see as the translucent blue is a little dark, so need to lighten that up on future casts.
The Demon Mirror has a demon revealing itself ( Not that way ! LOL)
While were talking of reflective surfaces, I've painted a fountain for my client, the water was basically a flat surface so I've painted ripples onto it, to help convey movement.
That's all for this post, so until next time stay safe and have fun !
Cheers Dave
What! Where is the face of the mirror from Snow White?
ReplyDeleteThank you Phil, that gave me a good laugh, guess I need to make another mirror now ! LOL
DeleteThis is a whole post about painting difficult surfaces. From water to mirrors! I really like the mirror surfaces and using a light hand like you did is key to making them look good. The fountain looks very nice and realistic though too. Excellent work all the way around, Dave!
ReplyDeleteThank you Jeff, The fountain took a lot of research looking at different types of fountains to see the right sort of ripple marks, but was worth it on the end result, I do like the imagery I managed to get into the mirrors, especially as you have to paint in reverse on the back of the mirror, so start with the highlights and work back from them.
DeleteCrap. I looked into the reaper mirror. I couldn’t help myself. Now I feel a strange sense of dread and freedom. 😀
ReplyDeleteNice job on all the stuff.
Thank you Stewart, I knew I should have put a warning at the top of the post ! LOL
DeleteThese look spot on, Dave! :-) Mirror images and water ripples look really good!
ReplyDeleteThank you John, not something I paint a lot of, so wanted to push myself on these.
DeleteHow'd you manage to get that mirror effect? It came out fantastic
ReplyDeleteThank you SD, the mirrors were cast in translucent blue, so when you paint the images on the rear they look to be behind the glass, also using washes and contrast paints helps with shadowy effects, the last thing is to put a layer of solid black paint over the back, to add to the depth.
DeleteDammit, this goes beyond my wildest expectations! Absolutely mindblowing work, I love it all!
ReplyDeleteThank you Suber, I do like to challenge myself, it's the easiest way to keep learning new skills ! LOL
DeleteFantastic work, the mirrors look pretty spooky. And the painted water effects also look great, would have thought that they are part of the sculpt!
ReplyDeleteThank you snapfit, wanted to add to the look of each mirror and use the background I came up with each one. I was surprised at the lack of texture on the print, so needed to give the idea of movement, glad it worked out ! LOL
DeleteThat fountain is pretty cool. I really like how you painted those mirrors. The swirling souls is a very cool effect!
ReplyDeleteThank you Brian, was pleased with how the fountain turned out, and glad you like the effects on the mirrors.
DeleteMore awesome looking terrain, Dave - I particularly like the smoky, misted look of the mirrors!
ReplyDeleteThank you Azazael, part of that is the resin it's cast in, which all adds to the effect ! LOL
