MIRROR, MIRROR ON THE WALL

Please don't look into my soul ! LOL Yes I have painted up my new spooky mirrors, Ive put some details into each of the mirrors based on the background I listed when I showed the sculpts.

The mirror of the Dead has swirling souls in it's reflection, it's a bit hard to see as the translucent blue is a little dark, so need to lighten that up on future casts.

The Reaper's Mirror has the reaper's hand tapping out how long the soul has left.

The Demon Mirror has a demon revealing itself ( Not that way ! LOL)

While were talking of reflective surfaces, I've painted a fountain for my client, the water was basically a flat surface so I've painted ripples onto it, to help convey movement.

That's all for this post, so until next time stay safe and have fun !

Cheers Dave

  2. This is a whole post about painting difficult surfaces. From water to mirrors! I really like the mirror surfaces and using a light hand like you did is key to making them look good. The fountain looks very nice and realistic though too. Excellent work all the way around, Dave!

    1. Thank you Jeff, The fountain took a lot of research looking at different types of fountains to see the right sort of ripple marks, but was worth it on the end result, I do like the imagery I managed to get into the mirrors, especially as you have to paint in reverse on the back of the mirror, so start with the highlights and work back from them.

  3. Crap. I looked into the reaper mirror. I couldn’t help myself. Now I feel a strange sense of dread and freedom. 😀

Nice job on all the stuff.

    1. Thank you SD, the mirrors were cast in translucent blue, so when you paint the images on the rear they look to be behind the glass, also using washes and contrast paints helps with shadowy effects, the last thing is to put a layer of solid black paint over the back, to add to the depth.

  7. Fantastic work, the mirrors look pretty spooky. And the painted water effects also look great, would have thought that they are part of the sculpt!

    1. Thank you snapfit, wanted to add to the look of each mirror and use the background I came up with each one. I was surprised at the lack of texture on the print, so needed to give the idea of movement, glad it worked out ! LOL

    1. Thank you Azazael, part of that is the resin it's cast in, which all adds to the effect ! LOL
