This phrase turned out to be inaccurate as we found out later on, as it was in fact an R5 unit, at the time Luke was a simple farm boy, so I suppose we can let him off ! LOL
After working on Dark Eldar all last month, I wanted to return to my Star Wars project so decided to paint up a few more astromech's.
This first batch are all R5 units
On the left is R5-D4 who was first seen in episode 4 and was the unit that blew his motivator, in the expanded universe we found out he was a rebel spy, and recently he appeared in "The Mandolorian"
In the middle is R5-K6 who appeared in the original trilogy.
The last one is R5-U8 who appears in Star Wars Rebels.
Next up are some R2 units
On the left is R2-K2, this was first done as a promotional droid to help raise funds for Breast Cancer research, and has since appeared in Star Wars Rebels.
In the centre is R2-C4 and appeared in the original trilogy.
On the right is R2-A6 and also appeared in the original trilogy.
Last droid today is an R4 unit
This next model is a shapeshiffter like the one that appeared in Episode 2 " Attack of the Clones" this model had been sat in the pile of no idea of what to do with since I got it as I'd already painted one on the movie, until watching the Clone Wars cartoon noticed another shapeshiffter and while finding reference pictures found another two from the expanded universe.
That's all for this post, so until next time stay safe and have fun !
Cheers Dave
Awesome android units, Dave. Love your attention to both painting detail and Star Wars lore. Clearly a lot of passionate painting going on with these minis. One of my fave postings :-)
ReplyDeleteThank you Simon, a bit of a obsession possibly ! LOL quite a bit of research helps to be honest, plus what I remember and watch helps as well
DeleteInteresting attention to detail with these droids, almost the same as historical uniforms. They look pretty good though.
ReplyDeleteThank you John, your not wrong there, it probably takes as much research as well, in fact possibly harder as getting complete views is quite difficult for lesser known characters.
DeleteNice work on all the droids Dave, have seen a full size mock up of R5 D4 at a comicon, I always rather liked him (plus he has an amazing turn of speed, because if you watch ep4, just after his motovator blows up he is back in the line up by R2 D2!)
ReplyDeleteCheers Roger.
Thank you Roger, indeed and the next frame he's back next to Luke, it's almost as if he has portal tech ! LOL
DeleteOut of all the robots in the films and series my favourites would have to be K2 and L3, as they have such extreme personalities !
Great work Dave, but now the next time I watching the movie's I'll be thinking there's one of Dave & yep there's another one he done & so on & so forth :)
ReplyDeleteThank you Frank, eventually I'd like to get to a point where I've done all the original trilogy droids, the tricky ones are going to be the R3's with they're translucent domes, but will have to see what I can come up with
DeleteWell I at lkeast recognised the R2 units! I really didn't realise just how many colour schemes there were for all the droids and just how many different variants there were. Your's look great especially as they must be quite small; loving the detailed painting.
ReplyDeleteOf course, I don't know the who the shapeshifter guy is, but I do loike the sculp and you've given him another great contrasting coluour scheme, showing a lot od detail on the figure.
All good eye-candy
Thank you Joe, glad I could do some you recognised. It's amazing how many variations actually appeared in the movies, let alone the series, finding detailed pictures can be difficult, but I'll get there in the end.
DeleteGlad you like the colour scheme on the shapeshifter, was glad to finally find one that was relevant in the expanded universe
Excellent work on all the droids and the shapeshifter.
ReplyDeleteThank you Simon, was good to get some more of this project finished
DeleteLovely looking droids and shapeshifter!
ReplyDeleteBest Iain
Thank you Iain, was good to get back to this project
DeleteGreat stuff Dave! I'm assuming that they are all Imperial Assault models? In keeping with the droid theme I just finished up painting a 3d print of Chopper myself lol 😀
ReplyDeleteThank you Ivor, yes the r2's are standard Imperial Assault Miniatures the R4's and R5's are conversions I did. Would love to see your work on Chopper, have you got a link to your blog ?
DeleteI haven't gotten the Chopper post up quite yet, it's still in draft mode, along with about four other posts lol! But here's a link to my last one with some Star Wars, https://saturdaymornings13.blogspot.com/2020/11/captain-cassian-andor-and-k-2so-star.html
DeleteThank's Ivor for the link I've followed and added you to my blog list
DeleteCool work, Dave. I likes me some droids and was always a fan of the various Astromech units. Will you do any in Imperial livery, which appesrs to be black and orange?
ReplyDeleteThank you Jez, I've already done several Imperial units, the courier above takes my total to 4. They have have several colour schemes that I've found so far, mainly black, with details in silver, or copper, not seen a black and orange one so far but will have another look, thanks for the info
DeleteGreat stuff on these R-units!
ReplyDeleteCheers mate, can never have too many R-units wheeling around ! LOL
